HASI is seeking an experienced transactional legal counsel to manage all legal aspects of complex renewable energy transactions, including project finance, tax equity, acquisitions and divestitures, and joint ventures. This Senior Counsel position provides legal support directly to the executive management team, and to the investment, finance, and portfolio management departments of the Company. This role is ideal for someone who brings strong transactional rigor, sound judgment, comfort with innovation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, business-driven environment. The successful candidate will serve as a trusted partner to many internal stakeholders, delivering excellent legal advice with a high level of ownership and accountability. Salary Range Expected salary range of $220,000 – $260,000, based on experience and location. Responsibilities
- Lead sophisticated renewable energy and project finance transactions across the full deal lifecycle, including structuring, drafting, and negotiation of transaction documents, due diligence management and post-closing compliance management;
- Partner closely with business and functional teams to deliver practical, commercially focused legal advice and drive transactions to closing efficiently;
- Support the development, construction, operation, and financing of renewable energy projects, including solar, storage, wind, and other energy transition assets;
- Identify and manage legal, commercial, and regulatory risks, and oversee diligence, approvals, and outside counsel in support of efficient execution;
- Contribute to broader in-house legal matters, including governance, contracting processes, policies, workflow automation, and other operational priorities;
- Support special projects and other strategic initiatives as needed;
- Exercise strong independent judgment while collaborating effectively across functions in a fast-paced environment with evolving priorities.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of transactional legal experience, both in-house and at a nationally-recognized law firm, with significant exposure to renewable energy infrastructure finance;
- Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school;
- Membership in good standing of the bar of any U.S. state or the District of Columbia (preferred Maryland, Delaware, or New York);
- High degree of comfort with technological innovation and the appropriate use of AI;
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills with a variety of audiences across ;specializations and seniority levels;
- Ability to build stakeholder consensus and appropriately balance legal and business risk;
- Proven ability to manage multiple complex transactions simultaneously in a deadline-driven environment;
- Strong organizational, decision-making, and problem-solving skills;
- High level of attention to detail and accountability;
- Solid understanding of transactional legal principles and documentation standards;
- Growth mindset and collaborative approach.
