Cleans and prepares metal surfaces for painting. Removes dirt, grease, scale and other contaminants. Masks and tapes areas not requiring painting. Paints parts, equipment and structural surfaces on interiors and exterior of machines and parts. Mixes material in accordance with product data sheet. Inspects prepared painted areas and performs touch-up work as needed. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some which may become essential to the position.

Estimated Compensation $25.00 - $33.00 per hour
  1. Set up tools and equipment to clean and prep machines or parts for painting.
  2. Set up tools and equipment to mix and paint materials and perform paint application using synthetic enamels, acrylic enamels, urethanes, and CARC coating according to PDS. This also includes hand painting in designated areas, inspect work for touch-up.
  3. Operates heavy equipment for movement around yard or shop. Operates high reach equipment to prepare surfaces and to apply coating in hard-to-reach elevated areas.
  4. Maintains tooling.
  5. Applies films and decals
  6. Sandblasts, preps, sands, tapes, paints, and decals heavy equipment, trucks, and trailers
  7. Uses auto body techniques, Bondo, fiberglass, and SMC plastic repair
  8. Checks and maintains inventory of paint and supplies.
  9. Performs housekeeping on assigned work areas, during and at completion of work. Removes scrap and performs general cleaning and sweeping.
  10. Must adhere to all state and local regulations and work within the companies painting permit to avoid violations.
  11. Must maintain timely paint records. (Daily, monthly, quarterly, yearly.)
  12. May assist other team members during down time.
  13. Guide/mentor/train technicians with less expertise.
  14. Performs additional duties as directed by supervisor.

 

  1. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Must have 1 to 3 years of experience with hand brush and spray-painting application or be SSPC C-12 Certification accredited.
  3. Must have knowledge of surface preparation procedures, proper use and mixing of paints. 4. Must have the ability to read and understand product data sheets.
  4. Must have ability to identify paint application requirements and equipment needed for coating application.
  5. Must have the ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and be able to work any shift.
  6. Must comprehend written and verbal instructions and hear warning signals, read and comprehend safety instructions, regulations and warning.
  7. Strong attention to detail
  8. Ability to work well with others.
  9. Ability to work within deadlines and with changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  10. Must have a valid California class C driver’s license and a clean driving record.

 

  1. Walking and moving about on foot often through uneven terrain.
  2. Hands/arms operating equipment, hand and power tools.
  3. Handling: Works with hands.
  4. Lifting: Raises or lowers miscellaneous equipment parts and tools, up to 50 lbs. with frequent exertion.
  1. Reaching: Extends hands and arms in any direction.
  2. Stooping: Bends body downward and forward by bending at knees or waist.
  3. Standing: Remains in standing position if required to perform various functions of the job.
  4. Vision: Reads work tickets, parts and service books and operates heavy equipment.
  5. Talking: Communications via telecommunications and in person.
  6. Climbing: May climb on and off various equipment.
  7. Hearing: Hears well enough to discern mechanical problems for safety in and around shop and construction sites and to receive communication via telecommunications and in person.
  8. Sitting: Sits in equipment and vehicles.
  9. Laying: Lies in prone position under vehicles and equipment.
  1. Noise: Works in conditions with constant or intermittent noise.
  2. Temp/Weather: Works outside in shop with variations of temperature and weather.
  3. Exposure: Foul odors, fumes and harsh substances.
