Description

To perform Mammography procedures utilizing X-Ray imaging equipment to produce images of the breast for the screening, diagnosis, and/or treatment of diseases or injuries, while ensuring optimum patient care and safety.

Knowledge of Anatomy, Physiology, Radiation Physics and Protection, and the principles of Imaging. Skill in the use of imaging equipment. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to comply with radiation protection practices. Ability to alleviate patient anxiety.

Responsibilities

Performs mammography procedures to produce images of the breast.

Explains procedures to patient, obtains and records relevant medical history, selects appropriate equipment settings, and positions the patient in a manner to facilitate optimum imaging results.

Views images to determine quality and forwards for review and interpretation; maintains applicable patient documentation.

Maintains adequate supplies and a clean work area; reports equipment malfunctions to supervisor.

Assumes responsibility for patient safety; provides physical and psychological comfort to patient.

Ensures compliance with workplace safety, environmental, exposure control, and/or infection control practices.

If serving in a lead role: projects and maintains a positive and encouraging work environment. Responsible for coordinating and conducting an optimum/efficient daily work flow within the breast imaging department.

If serving in a lead role: ensures the daily qc is performed and meets standards. Responsible for ordering and stocking supplies.

If serving in a lead role: enters and follows up with orders. Oversees patient and staff schedules. Maintains monthly radiation badge duties.

If serving in a lead role: maintains compliance, tracking, and updating all MQSA, ACR, and FDA reporting to include the radiologist's credentials.

Requires frequent exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, constant handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, constant exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, constant work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, constant bending, occasional lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, constant crouching/stooping, frequent kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, constant reaching, frequent sitting, frequent standing, frequent twisting, and frequent walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)

Requirements

Graduate of a Radiologic Technology program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the American Registry Of Radiologic Technology (ARRT).

Mississippi Radiologic Technologist license, BLS required; May be obtained within the first ninety (90) days of hire., American Registry Of Radiologic Technology (ARRT) registration in Mammography.
