Polysomnography Tech I

Description

To develop competency in and perform polysomnographic testing and associated interventions. To perform all types of sleep studies under the guidance of a senior tech. To develop skills in scoring studies during recording. To clean and assemble equipment used for studies.

• →Performs a variety of polysomnographic exams on sleeping patient to detect common sleep disorders.
• →Follows procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data; documents procedures and data recorded from exams in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic result.
• →Verifies medical order and protocol; completes and verifies documentation; explains testing procedures and orients the patient to the sleep center.
• →Prepares and calibrates equipment used for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments as necessary.
• →Follows specified procedures to verify integrity of collected data and instructs patients on completing questionnaires.
• →Performs equipment care and maintenance; complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding patient safety and infection control issues.
• →Performs a variety of sleep studies under the supervision and guidance of a senior tech and scores studies as they record.
• →Continues to learn and gain experience in order to work toward obtaining certification and/or registry.

Requires occasional exposure to unpleasant or disagreeable physical environment such as high noise level and exposure to heat and cold, occasional handling or working with potentially dangerous equipment, occasional exposure to biohazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, occasional working hours significantly beyond regularly scheduled hours, occasional travelling to offsite locations, occasional activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, occasional work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, occasional bending, occasional lifting and carrying more than 100 pounds, occasional climbing, occasional crawling, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional driving, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, occasional reaching, occasional sitting, occasional standing, occasional twisting, and occasional walking. (occasional-up to 20%, frequent-from 21% to 50%, constant-51% or more)

Requirements

Education & Experience: High School Diploma/GED and 6 months of direct patient care experience or current enrollment or completion in an accredited educational program in Polysomnography.
