Mental Health/Substance Abuse Counselor

Position Summary:
The Mental Health/Substance Abuse Counselor provides substance use services to clients of the mental health center under the substance abuse program. This also includes the supervision of non-certified direct services providers (if applicable). In addition, this position is also responsible for prevention services for this agency.
This position is open to candidates holding a substance abuse counselor license (PLADC, LADC, PLMHP, LIMHP, or LMHP). Candidates with a mental health license (PLMHP, LIMHP, LMHP) may provide a broader scope of mental health services.
Responsibilities:
- Functions as an individual, family, and group substance abuse counselor. This may include but not be limited to substance abuse evaluations/assessments, treatment, and education.
- Provides consultation, education, and prevention services.
- Assists in the planning process, service delivery, and evaluation of the substance abuse program.
- Prepare reports as directed by the Clinical Director.
- Provides crisis intervention as needed.
- Will be part of the on-call weekend rotation schedule to provide 24/7 crisis coverage.
- Promotes agency awareness through outside resources.
- Completes paperwork as outlined in agency policies and procedures.
- Attend scheduled supervisory and clinical staff meetings.
- Meets expectations for monthly billable baseline.
- Assists in quality assurance.
- Facilitates outpatient groups as assigned.
- Communicates and collaborates effectively within the agency.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Maintains ethics and confidentiality as dictated by profession.
- Maintains state licensure without disciplinary action.
- Knowledge of counseling theory and practice.
- Ability to form therapeutic relationships with clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills in working with diverse
- Skills in verbal and written communication.
- Ability to form cooperative supportive relationships with staff/agency.
- Possess a valid driver’s license and an insurable driving record.
Required Licensure:
- Must hold one of the following licenses: PLADC, LADC, PLMHP, LIMHP, or LMHP.
- Must be licensed as a substance abuse counselor by the Nebraska Department of Health.
Training & Experience:
- Experience and training in treating substance use disorders.
- Proficient in conducting substance use assessments.
