The SMT Operator will assist in the manufacturing of printed circuit boards, product assemblies, and report to the operations manager. This person will work with a small team to perform assembly of electronic components that includes preparation, placement and installation using a modern SMT line. Our line includes a Speedprint 710 stencil printer, Europlacer iiNEO+ pick and place machine, BTU reflow oven, and Omron 730 AOI machine. We perform a high mix run of low to medium sized production batches.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Programming and maintenance of the SMT assembly line and any related equipment.
- →Perform all facets of surface mount assembly.
- →Primary responsibility for line operation including screen printer, pick and place machine, and reflow oven, Automatic Optical Inspection machine, and ancillary SMT line equipment.
- →Operate the equipment, including understanding the sequence of events, the control panel, and indicators, and understanding how to replenish supplies and components per Standard Operating Procedures
- →Set-up of the equipment, and maintain operation, which includes machine adjustments and ability to perform set-up (feeder loading and changing) per the manufacturing instructions and Standard Operating Procedures
- →Ownership of general equipment cleaning and upkeep per the Standard Operating Procedures
- →Manual assembly of electronic components including some complex part installations, custom specs and quality standards.
- →Perform hand soldering, inspection, and rework, SMT, mixed assemblies and custom parts as per Engineering specifications and IPC workmanship standards.
- →Component preparation, placement, and installation.
- →Be able to work on various aspects of the manufacturing operations.
- →Participate in training and certification programs to ensure job knowledge and skills set.
Requirements
~1 min read- Knowledge in printed circuit board related processes – soldering, cleaning, and repairing
- Specialized SMT knowledge is ideal
- Hands on manufacturing skills such as manual soldering
- Ability to read and to work from schematics, process sheets, a sample or other work instructions
- Be able to work independently with minimal supervision
- Comply with all department and company rules
- Working with extremely small parts using a microscope and small hand tools
- Strong attention to detail and focus on quality
- Technical communication skills – must be able to interface with engineering and purchasing
- Use hand, air, and power tools
- Component sourcing experience preferred
- Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment, knowledge of standards in electronic components handling preferred
