Backpack Healthcare is looking for a Virginia-licensed PMHNP who values clinical autonomy, meaningful work, and genuine collaboration.

We provide accessible mental health care for children, teens, and young adults through telehealth. As a clinician-led, minority-owned organization, we're building a different kind of behavioral health experience โ€” one where clinicians have the autonomy to practice at the top of their license while still having a strong team behind them.

Responsibilities

You'll provide comprehensive psychiatric care to children, teens, and young adults through telehealth, with a focus on accessible, evidence-based, family-centered treatment.

Your day-to-day will include:

  • โ†’Conducting comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and developing diagnostic formulations
  • โ†’Creating individualized treatment plans with patients and families
  • โ†’Prescribing and managing psychotropic medications
  • โ†’Monitoring treatment effectiveness, safety, and clinical progress
  • โ†’Providing brief supportive interventions and psychoeducation
  • โ†’Collaborating with therapists, psychiatrists, and care coordinators through case consultation and care planning
  • โ†’Educating families about diagnoses, medications, treatment options, and expected outcomes
  • โ†’Maintaining accurate, timely clinical documentation in the EHR
  • โ†’Supporting a culture of high-quality, trauma-informed, culturally responsive care
  • Active, unrestricted Virginia PMHNP license
  • Ability to practice independently without an MD collaboration agreement โ€” required
  • PMHNP-BC board certification
  • Active DEA license
  • Master's or doctoral degree from an accredited PMHNP program
  • Experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and/or families preferred
  • Strong clinical judgment and comfort practicing autonomously
  • Comfortable delivering care through telehealth
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills
  • Compassionate, culturally responsive approach to patient and family care
  • Afternoon, evening, and/or weekend availability required

Since 2020, we've served 12,000+ kids and families through accessible behavioral healthcare. 78% of families report that their child is doing better after three months.

We built Backpack because the traditional mental healthcare model wasn't working โ€” for kids, families, or the clinicians trying to help them.

Here, clinicians have the opportunity to practice independently, collaborate meaningfully, and make a measurable difference in the lives of young people.

If you're a Virginia PMHNP looking for clinical autonomy, flexible telehealth practice, competitive per-session compensation, and additional monthly earning potential, we'd love to meet you.

Backpack Healthcare is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity in age, background, identity, and experience โ€” and we mean it.
