As Associate General Counsel, Regulatory Affairs and Disputes, you would be an integral part of our legal team, reporting to the General Counsel and working with us to provide expert legal counsel while supporting the smooth, efficient operation of our marketplace business. This is the perfect role for an experienced lawyer with an entrepreneurial mindset, incredible attention to detail, and a passion for learning and growing, who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
Responsibilities

Manage and oversee all aspects of litigation, arbitration, collections, and dispute resolution, including commercial, regulatory, and employment matters.

Together with Legal Operations, develop and execute internal litigation management processes and systems, including for eDiscovery and records management/retention.

Provide the business with day-to-day advice on employment and intellectual property matters, serving as the legal team’s go-to expert and advisor on these areas of law.

Collaborate with and manage outside counsel, including to control costs and ensure high-quality legal representation.

Draft, review, and supervise litigation-related documents and legal memoranda.

Advise the General Counsel and other senior leadership on litigation exposure, trends, and mitigation strategies.

Support regulatory inquiries, examinations, and investigations.

Partner closely with Compliance on regulatory matters.

Build positive and highly collaborative relationships across Hiive.
A J.D. or L.L.B. with a license to practice law in the United States or in Canada.
8+ years of relevant legal experience, ideally having started at a law firm and honed in-house at a financial services company.
Proven experience in managing litigation and regulatory matters.
Substantial experience developing and executing internal litigation management processes and systems.
Experience advising fintech companies or financial institutions.
A keen interest in creative legal problem-solving, including researching novel and ambiguous areas of law.
A desire to work on an agile team providing pragmatic advice and guidance to product, business, and operations teams that are moving very quickly.
A track record of sound judgment and composure in high-pressure situations.
Nice to Have
