Input Device Architect, Personal Systems
Description -
Job Summary
This role owns the technology architecture and roadmap for input device components — touch panel, touch IC, and pen — across HP's Personal Systems portfolio. It evaluates emerging technologies and partner capabilities, translates POC data into solution proposals, and defines design specifications by balancing market, ID, human factor, and platform requirements. The role acts as the component-level technical authority, bridging procurement, cross-functional engineering, and execution teams to deliver technically sound, cost-competitive input device solutions.
Responsibilities
* Own the technology roadmap for input device commodities (touch panel, touch IC, pen), tracking the broader input device ecosystem and evaluating new technologies, innovations, and partner/supplier capabilities for alignment with roadmap and business value.
* Evaluate products from a component-level perspective to shape viable design solutions and define input device design specifications by balancing market requirements, ID (industrial design) requirements, human factor requirements, and platform requirements, and hand over specifications to execution teams for implementation.
* Leverage POC (proof-of-concept) data to develop and recommend input device solutions and technology packages.
* Collaborate and communicate internally with PM planners, ID, human factor, platform architect, procurement, and other cross-functional engineering teams (e.g., mechanical, BIOS…etc.) regarding design specifications, technical alignment, cost evaluation, and issue resolution.
* Collaborate and communicate with external supplier and outsourced development partners regarding design architecture, technical proposals, and project progress.
* Support a scope extending beyond notebook to include AIO (All-in-One), POS (Point of Sale), and other form factors, spanning Consumer, Commercial, Gaming, and Mobile Workstation business units.
* Provide guidance and technical mentoring on input device technology and design excellence to less experienced staff members.
Education & Experience Recommended
* Four-year or Graduate Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence.
* Typically has 10+ years of work experience, preferably in engineering design and solutions, implementation across hardware development lifecycle, or a related field.
* Demonstrated component-level expertise in display and touch IC commodities, with the ability to provide comprehensive and timely technical insight as well as commodity market insight.
* Experience with input device/touch and pen technologies applied across PC, tablet, or mobile phone products is preferred.
* Strong teamwork and cross-functional collaboration skills, with proven ability to work effectively with marketing, architecture, and procurement teams, along with strong communication and the ability to respond effectively in real time.
