Hunt Electric, Inc. is seeking an experienced Payroll Manager with extensive construction industry experience, strong leadership abilities, and expertise in multi-state payroll taxation, prevailing wage requirements, certified payroll reporting, and payroll system administration.

 

The Payroll Manager will serve as the subject matter expert for payroll operations and will partner closely with Accounting, Human Resources, Operations, and Executive Management.

This position reports to the Controller and plays a critical role in supporting the company's continued growth and operational excellence.

 

 

 

Major Duties:

  • Oversee end to end payroll processing including calculations, deductions, garnishments, direct deposits, and certified payroll processing.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.
  • Update policies, document SOPs, and improve workflows.
  • Coordinate with the finance and HR departments to process payroll.
  • Monitor payroll schedules.
  • Maintain payroll information by directing the collection, calculation, and enter accurate data.
  • Prepare reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and nontaxable wages.
  • Determine payroll liabilities by approving calculations of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, employer’s social security, unemployment, and workers' compensation payments.
  • Manage prevailing wage requirements, Davis-Bacon compliance, and certified payroll reporting.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes impacting payroll operations and implement necessary process updates.
  • Oversee payroll tax filings, reconciliations, and year-end reporting, including W-2 preparation and distributions.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources to ensure accurate processing of new hires, promotions, transfers, leaves of absence, and terminations.
  • Balance payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies.
  • Experience with payroll in multiple states and the ability to communicate with multi state agencies.
  • Supervise payroll staff and provide leadership, training and coaching, and performance management.
  • Maintain a professional and confidential demeanor by protecting employee and payroll operations information.
  • Actively contributes to a positive team environment.
  • Demonstrates dependability with regular attendance and compliance to scheduled work hours.
  • Other duties or locations as assigned by Manager.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 7 years of progressive payroll experience including leadership or management responsibilities.
  • Extensive experience in managing payroll for a large multi state workforce.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, multi task, and change direction quickly.
  • Construction industry payroll experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Davis-Bacon prevailing wage requirements and certified payroll reporting.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to pass background check.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time position with a typical working schedule of Monday - Thursday 7:00am – 4:30pm and Fridays 7:00am – 2:00pm.
