About the Role
~1 min readTake your trade to the next level through Hydro Tasmania’s structured training program, designed to prepare you for a career as an Operator Maintainer. You’ll join the business as a qualified tradesperson and enter the program as a Trainee Power Station Operator, training to operate and maintain iconic hydro power stations across Tasmania.
Working across Trevallyn and Poatina power stations, gaining hands-on experience with industrial‑scale renewable energy assets while building operational and maintenance capability through Hydro’s Training School. As you progress through the program and reach key milestones, you’ll be signed off as an Operator Maintainer, taking on greater responsibility while supporting safe, reliable power generation for Tasmania and the National Electricity Market.

Responsibilities
~1 min read• Learn to operate and monitor generation plants, auxiliary equipment, headworks and water flows.
• Perform switching, reconfiguration, isolation and commissioning of plant and switchyards.
• Isolate and commission plant to support Permits to Work and maintenance activities.
• Support operational and maintenance work, including fault finding and condition monitoring
• Record work, inspections and reports in SAP while following safety, environmental and operational procedures.

Requirements
~1 min read• Qualified mechanical or electrical tradesperson (Certificate III in Mechanical Fitting or Certificate III in Electrotechnology).
• Experience in an industrial or production environments.
• Ability to follow operating procedures, perform switching activities and work within permit systems.
• Strong fault‑finding skills with the ability to identify and respond to abnormal plant conditions.
• Current driver’s licence, sound computer and reporting skills, and a strong safety focus
