Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the accounting and payroll department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and maintaining compliance with relevant laws and regulations. This role combines leadership, technical accounting expertise, and strategic planning to support organizational goals.
Primary Responsibilities
● Financial Management:
o Supervise and manage the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and other accounting functions.
o Assist in the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements and reports to ensure accuracy and compliance with standards.
o Responsible for completion and accuracy of all balance sheet reconciliations.
o Manage month-end closing procedures/steps to ensure financials are completed timely.
o Manage intercompany processing and reporting, including allocations of expenses monthly among the various companies.
o Oversee weekly payroll processing and manage a contract payroll team member.
o Partner with Human Resources on payroll/employee relations issues that arise.
● Reconstruction / Project Accounting:
o Develop and maintain a clearly defined Reconstruction P&L, distinct from the overall company P&L.
o Prepare, review, and analyze each MMO’s Reconstruction P&L on a monthly basis to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company and accounting standards.
o Evaluate Construction Project Managers’ financial performance by analyzing job volume, job size, gross margin, profitability, billing, and collections.
o Develop, implement, and continuously improve accounting procedures and internal controls to support the successful growth of the Reconstruction department across all SERVPRO Team Zubricki franchises.
o Assist in developing project budgets, job costing standards, and financial procedures to ensure reconstruction projects are run efficiently and profitably.
o Oversee job costing, WIP, revenue recognition, and margin tracking for all Reconstruction projects.
o Partner with Operations and Reconstruction leadership to identify financial risks, cost overruns, and opportunities for improved profitability.
o Provide clear and actionable financial reporting and insights to ownership and leadership to support decision-making.
o Review and evaluate the budget performance of the subcontractors.
o Oversee vendor accounts such as Home Depot, Lowe's, cabinetry, flooring, carpentry, etc.
o Determine the breakeven number for each MMO's reconstruction department.
● Team Leadership:
o Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting specialists.
o Assign tasks, set deadlines, and conduct performance evaluations.
● Compliance & Auditing:
o Ensure adherence to GAAP, IFRS, or other relevant accounting and payroll standards.
o Assist in Servpro Corp franchise accounting compliance and monthly financial reporting requirements.
o Coordinate and assist with internal and external audits.
● Budgeting & Forecasting:
o Support leadership in developing and monitoring budgets.
o Assist in managing cash flow forecasting and budgeting.
o Provide insights and recommendations based on financial analysis.
● Process Improvement:
o Participate in evaluating current accounting practices and processes, recommending and implementing improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
o Maintain and update accounting systems and policies.
o Participate in ERP system conversion, targeted to be completed in 2025.
● Other tasks as assigned by supervisor
Education and Experience Requirements
● Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
● 7+ years accounting experience
● 2+ years supervisory or management experience
● Franchise accounting experience (preferred)
● Proficiency in spreadsheets and databases
● Thorough knowledge and demonstrated skills in accounting and financial policies, procedures, and reporting
● Experience working in a changing and dynamic environment (preferred)
● Proficiency in accounting software (e.g. IES, Quickbooks online, Sage or other)
● Effective communication and interpersonal skills
● Occasional Travel to other franchise locations
● Additional work hours at month end close.
