As an Employee Relations Partner, you will support fair, consistent, and compliant handling of employee relations matters across the organisation. This role combines advisory and adjudication responsibilities, ensuring disciplinary and grievance processes are conducted in line with legislation and company policy.
You will contribute to reducing risk, strengthening governance, and supporting a workplace culture grounded in fairness, accountability, and respect.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Chair disciplinary hearings and appeals as a neutral third party
- Ensure proceedings align with the Labour Relations Act (LRA) and internal policies
- Review and assess evidence, including witness testimony and case documentation
- Deliver clear, evidence-based findings and outcomes
- Support matters escalated to CCMA and Labour Court proceedings
- Draft structured, accurate, and legally sound outcome reports
- Apply consistent and appropriate sanctions based on evidence and precedent
- Prepare disciplinary packs, warnings, notices, and related documentation
- Produce documentation suitable for internal and external review
- Provide guidance to managers on disciplinary processes and case preparation
- Support the development of compliant and well-documented cases
- Act as a point of contact for complex employee relations matters
- Review documentation for accuracy and completeness prior to hearings
- Provide guidance and training to managers on employee relations processes
- Identify trends and recommend improvements to processes or policies
- Maintain and update policies in line with current legislation
- Support compliance with applicable labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, EEA, POPIA)
- Prepare documentation for disputes and arbitration processes
- Support employment-related compliance and reporting requirements
- Collaborate with HR and legal stakeholders as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Psychology, Labour Law, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- 5+ years’ experience in Employee Relations or Labour Relations
- Experience chairing disciplinary hearings and/or supporting formal ER processes
- Exposure to CCMA and Labour Court processes
- Knowledge of South African labour legislation (LRA, BCEA, EEA, POPIA)
- Ability to assess information and make evidence-based decisions
- Clear and structured written communication skills
- Ability to work with a range of stakeholders across different levels
- Ability to manage sensitive matters with professionalism and discretion
