  • Location: Spring Mill Pediatric Ophthalmology Department

This role supports front-end patient access operations and ensures a smooth, positive experience for patients from arrival through departure. The Registration Specialist facilitates patient flow, collects accurate demographic and financial information, and supports scheduling and administrative functions to ensure efficient clinic operations and optimal reimbursement.


Responsibilities

  • Patient registration, insurance verification, and check-in/check-out
  • Schedule, reschedule, and manage patient appointments
  • Manage referrals, faxes, and Cerner messages
  • Coordinate with other clinic locations, SPAC, and billing teams as needed
  • Answer incoming calls and direct patients and visitors appropriately
  • Collect payments, explain charges and policies, and ensure accurate documentation
  • Support overall patient flow in a timely, professional, and accurate manner

  • 3 Months: Proficient with patient check-in and check-out processes
  • 6 Months: Independently manage additional administrative duties (Cerner, faxes, etc.)
  • 12 Months: Completion of Registration Specialist II Career Ladder competency checklist (if desired)

  • Strong customer service and service recovery skills
  • Ability to adapt and support team needs across functions
  • Effective communication and teamwork
  • Detail-oriented with ability to manage multiple tasks
  • Medical office experience is a plus!

  • Training is tailored based on experience level:
    • Experienced hires: Focus on learning department workflows and paper chart processes
    • Inexperienced hires: Comprehensive training on registration functions and paper chart protocols

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

  • Experience in a healthcare setting
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance processes, and clinical workflows
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding
  • Ability to interpret insurance information
