Responsibilities
~2 min read- →The Learning Center:
- →Manage the daily functions of The Learning Center’s tutoring services
- →This role supports SSS TRiO students and campus tutoring efforts, coordinates individual and group tutoring
- →Work with TRiO staff and students regarding requests, processes, and tutor matching
- →Serve to open and close TLC for the year, along with some evening hours each week required to supervise the operation of TLC
- →Student Tutors and Desk Worker Staff Oversight:
- →Hire, supervise, train, evaluate, and support TLC student staff (tutors and desk workers)
- →Communicate with faculty on tutor recommendations and recruitment
- →Administration & Research:
- →Collect, summarize, and analyze statistics and usage of The Learning Center and Academic Coaching
- →Research and maintain best practices for learning centers
- →Help enhance the student experience through committee service, research, continued learning, and investing in improving student retention as a member of The Center for Academic Thriving team
- →Continue to seek new ways to support students and enhance current offerings
- →Work with IT to ensure all software used by TLC is working correctly
- →Manage workflows to match tutor and tutee availability
- →Student Thriving & Experience:
- →Invest in the student experience through events in The Center for Academic Thriving and The Learning Center
- →These include tutor trainings, new student orientation, move-in days (2 Saturdays), admitted student day events (2 Saturdays), and various events throughout the semester
Requirements
~1 min read- Master's degree desired
- Someone beginning or in a Master's degree will be considered
- Prior higher education experience preferred
- Demonstrates a mature personal faith in Jesus Christ and a commitment to the mission of IWU
- Demonstrates a strong, positive, team-oriented attitude and a continued goal to learn and grow
- Demonstrates extraordinary interpersonal and collaborative skills to work with a variety of constituents (such as parents and students) and colleagues (such as faculty, staff, and academic leadership)
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, written communication, and listening skills
- Understands the complexities of higher education and can successfully and respectfully navigate organizational areas and policies
- Demonstrates an ability to learn and use complex information, ability to prioritize, and solve problems. High level of attention to detail
- Possesses strong technical skills and a high comfort level within a computerized environment, including computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ability to learn additional online platforms used in the Learning Center and at IWU (such as, Accutrack and Brightspace)
- Demonstrates the ability to make well-informed decisions, solve problems, and coordinate a variety of activities and tasks. Reveals exemplary organizational skills, attention to detail, flexibility, dependability, and the capacity to develop efficient and effective systems for the implementation of policies
- Adheres to strict confidentiality requirement/FERPA
