Quick Summary
Overview: We are seeking an experienced Laser Physicist to drive the design of high power laser systems and associated testing capabilities for Inertia’s fusion energy program.
We are seeking an experienced Laser Physicist to drive the design of high power laser systems and associated testing capabilities for Inertia’s fusion energy program. This work focuses on the development of the world’s highest average power pulsed lasers, which will form the ‘unit cell’ of our power plant. In partnership with industry, government and academia, we will build a demonstrator beamline to deliver 10 kJ at 10 Hz with 10% wall-plug efficiency using diode-pumped solid state laser technology (DPSSL).
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →
Perform laser modeling design and simulation for high energy, high-average power laser systems.
- →
Assess different architectural options, working with partners in industry and national laboratories, to determine an optimum solution.
- →
Oversee a team driving the design, installation, commissioning and optimization of beyond state-of-the-art laser systems and associated test facilities.
- →
Interface with the engineering and optical testing teams to ensure timely design and delivery of complex laser systems.
Requirements
~1 min readPhD plus 5-years’ experience (or equivalent) in laser physics or a relevant field.
Experience of laser system design using simulation codes such as Miro or Rsoft, laser energetics models, Frantz-Nodvik, and analysis of non-linear optical systems (SNLO or equivalent).
Modeling and operation of diode-pumped solid-state laser systems and components.
What We Offer
~1 min readInertia is taking the most direct, scientifically-proven path to commercializing fusion, leveraging the only successful achievement of fusion ignition, using a process that was pioneered at the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). With groundbreaking innovation, transformative technology, and multi-year investment, Inertia is committed to commercializing fusion energy in the next decade.
