The American Heart Association has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Program Consultant, Outpatient Quality Improvement based out of our National Center office! This position is home-based.
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, grant-funded opportunity. Current funding will expire on 7/30/2028, with the likelihood of extension.
The Senior Program Consultant, Outpatient Quality Improvement leads national outpatient quality improvement initiatives focused on cardiovascular and chronic disease prevention and management. This role oversees programs and implementation strategies related to blood pressure control, cholesterol management, diabetes care, CKM health, and emerging chronic disease priorities. Working with volunteers, healthcare organizations, Community Impact staff, clinical experts, and cross-functional teams, this individual translates strategy into measurable outcomes, scalable implementation models, and progress for the American Heart Association’s outpatient quality improvement and Outpace CVD initiatives. The role builds on the existing outpatient program emphasis on implementation, collaboration, stakeholder engagement, data-driven decision-making, and volunteer leadership.

Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of national outpatient quality improvement initiatives focused on cardiovascular and chronic disease prevention and management.
- →Lead the creation and refinement of accelerator models, improvement collaboratives, learning networks, and technical assistance offerings designed to improve healthcare quality and population health outcomes.
- →Provide strategic management and direct clinical insight for core Outpace CVD quality programs, including initiatives focused on hypertension, cholesterol management, diabetes care, CKM health, and related chronic disease priorities.
- →Partner cross-functionally with internal teams to develop training tools, educational resources, and implementation support that enable successful execution of Outpace CVD and related initiatives.
- →Develop and execute project plans, implementation roadmaps, timelines, and performance measures to support successful program delivery, growth, and sustainability.
- →Facilitate national volunteer committees, workgroups, and stakeholder meetings to build consensus and accountability, and translate recommendations into actionable plans, KPIs, and program outcomes.
- →Analyze program, clinical, and operational data to identify trends, assess performance, communicate insights, and recommend opportunities for continuous improvement.
- →Collaborate with clinical experts and cross-functional partners to translate evidence-based guidelines into practical quality improvement interventions, educational resources, and implementation strategies.
- →Prepare executive-level presentations, reports, and recommendations while communicating program progress, risks, outcomes, and strategic opportunities to leadership and key stakeholders.
Requirements
~2 min read- Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. Nursing degree preferred.
- 5 years of experience in healthcare quality improvement, population health, clinical program implementation, public health, nursing, healthcare operations, or a related field.
- Experience leading complex projects and multi-stakeholder initiatives from planning through execution and evaluation.
- Experience developing and implementing quality improvement strategies, collaboratives, learning networks, or healthcare improvement programs.
- Strong understanding of outpatient healthcare delivery, chronic disease management, evidence-based guidelines, and performance improvement methodologies.
- Experience working with physician leaders, volunteers, advisory groups, or clinical stakeholders.
- Exceptional facilitation, presentation, written communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, develop KPIs, and communicate findings effectively.
- Ability to work independently and lead highly collaborative, cross-functional initiatives.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Microsoft Teams, and data reporting and visualization tools.
- Ability to travel approximately 15% of the time, including overnight travel.
- Master's degree in Public Health (MPH), Healthcare Administration (MHA), Nursing, or related field.
- Project Management Professional (PMP), Lean Six Sigma, Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality (CPHQ), or similar certification.
- Experience with national quality improvement programs, clinical registries, guideline implementation, or healthcare accreditation initiatives.
- Experience leading volunteer governance groups, advisory committees, or physician workgroups.
- Knowledge of cardiovascular disease prevention, hypertension, cholesterol management, diabetes care, CKM health, and population health strategies.
- Experience supporting healthcare organizations through change management, practice transformation, quality improvement, or implementation science approaches.
What We Offer
~2 min readThe expected pay range will be $100,000 to $120,000. Pay is commensurate with experience; geographic differentials to the pay range may apply.
