For more than 40 years, InterSystems has partnered with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to improve healthcare delivery for Veterans and their families. We are seeking a Solution Architect to support our software sales and capture teams in pursuing complex VA health IT opportunities, with a strong focus on VistA and related VA systems.
This role partners closely with Sales, Engineering, and Product teams to design, position, and support technical solutions that integrate with legacy and modern VA environments. The role is highly customer-facing and capture-oriented, supporting pre-sales activities, solution shaping, RFIs, and proposal efforts. The Solution Architect will serve as a trusted technical advisor to VA stakeholders, both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Serve as the primary technical lead supporting sales efforts into the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
- →Design end-to-end technical architectures with VA systems.
- →Lead technical discovery sessions with VA clinicians, IT staff, and third parties.
- →Translate VA requirements into solution designs, implementation plans, and technical proposals.
- →Architect integrations using VistA APIs, HL7, FHIR, RPCs, MUMPS-based data structures, and VA data models.
- →Understand scalable architectures supporting 130+ VistA instances while ensuring reliability and performance.
- →Ensure solutions align with VA standards, data governance, and interoperability frameworks.
- →Navigate hybrid environments involving legacy VistA and newer platforms.
- →Develop and deliver technical demonstrations tailored to VA use cases.
- →Partner with sales and capture teams to support VA pursuits.
- →Act as the technical lead during customer engagements, solution discussions, and technical evaluations.
- →Support RFIs, draft RFPs, and proposal responses with accurate, compelling technical content.
- →Incorporate modern architectural patterns and appropriate technologies to support performance, resilience, and future modernization.
- →Serve as a trusted technical advisor to VA technical, clinical, and program stakeholders.
Requirements

- 7+ years of experience in solution architecture, sales engineering, or health IT integration.
- Experience supporting federal health IT sales or implementation.
- Experience supporting pre-sales, capture, or solutioning efforts for large government opportunities.
- Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and executive audiences.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in regulated, mission-critical healthcare environments.
- Experience using AI-assisted tools (e.g. copilots, summarisation tools, or chatbots) with an ability to critically evaluate and verify AI-generated outputs
- Demonstrated ability to learn, evaluate, adapt to, propose and implement AI-augmented workflows in order to continually enhance your own, and the team’s productivity
- Strong technical understanding of VistA architecture, workflows, and integrations.
