Development & Modernization Technical Subject Matter Expert

The Development and Modernization (Dev/Mod) technical SME supports the UHPO by providing strategic leadership and oversight for all project management activities related to Dev/Mod initiatives, including cost, schedule, and performance. Ideal candidates will be highly skilled and experienced Technical Integration Lead to drive the development, modernization, and sustainment of the UH-60 Black Hawk air vehicle. In this role, you will serve as the principal technical advisor and primary liaison to government Program Management Offices (PMOs), lead engineers, and key aviation stakeholders. You will be responsible for synchronizing complex systems integration initiatives across engineering, maintenance, logistics, and test organizations to ensure mission success and technical integrity.
Note: This position requires an active Secret Security Clearance at the time of application.
Position requirements
- Provide overarching technical expertise for the development, modernization, and sustainment of the UH-60 Black Hawk air vehicle and complex systems integration initiatives.
- Act as the principal technical advisor and primary liaison to government PMOs, lead engineers, and key aviation stakeholders to resolve critical integration issues.
- Direct technical synchronization, ensuring rigorous alignment and technical integrity across engineering, maintenance, logistics, and test organizations.
- Evaluate and guide technical execution. Leverage domain expertise to analyze risk profiles, anticipate systemic bottlenecks, and establish robust program metrics. Develop and maintain schedules, risk registers, and action trackers.
- Leverage deep systems knowledge to proactively isolate and manage advanced integration challenges, forecast maintenance impacts, and architect comprehensive risk mitigation strategies for the Dev/Mods organization.
- Synthesize complex engineering data and field maintainer feedback into authoritative, actionable technical recommendations that drive program strategy.
- Provide expert technical evaluation during formal Technical Reviews and formulate key technical requirements for Statements of Work (SOW) and Requests for Proposal (RFP).
- Aviation Experience Prior aircraft experience required; explicit experience on the UH-60 Black Hawk or similar rotary-wing platforms is highly preferred. Deep knowledge of the Black Hawk platform is essential.
- Demonstrated ability to accurately interpret and understand engineering drawings, system architectures, and complex integration impacts. Proven track record of collaborating with engineering teams to assess design changes, structural modifications, and modernization efforts.
- Familiarity with government PMO processes, Integrated Product Team (IPT) participation, and formal program reviews.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical data into actionable leadership recommendations.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use tools or controls; normal physical activity (reach with hands and arms; climb stairs); and communicate effectively with all levels of employees and leadership. The employee must occasionally lift or move office products and supplies, up to 25 pounds.
Requirements
~1 min read- MS and 12+ years of experience preferred (or BS and 15+)
- Knowledge of Black Hawk helicopters and their systems, subsystems and components
- Program Management experience
- Proven of managing Dev/Mods initiatives, forecasting maintenance impacts, and architecting risk mitigation strategies for complex aircraft systems.
- Direct experience formulating technical requirements for Statements of Work (SOW), Requests for Proposal (RFP), and evaluating technical execution during formal Technical Reviews (e.g., SRR, PDR, CDR).
- Practical experience interpreting complex engineering drawings, system architectures, and schematic diagrams to assess structural and integration impacts.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain programmatic artifacts, including risk registers, action trackers, and program status metrics to anticipate systemic bottlenecks.
- Track record of synthesizing complex field maintainer feedback and testing data into authoritative, actionable recommendations for program leadership.
Travel: May require travel up to 20%.
