We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Commercial Trucking Insurance Underwriter/Broker to join our Transportation team. This role is responsible for evaluating, quoting, and managing new and renewal business within the commercial auto and trucking sector. The ideal candidate can manage a high-volume workload while maintaining strong relationships with retail agency partners and carriers, making informed, data-driven underwriting decisions that align with strategic growth and profitability goals.

Responsibilities

Underwriting & Risk Analysis:

  • Evaluate new and renewal commercial trucking accounts—up to 40 per week—with premiums ranging from $10,000 to $100,000
  • Analyze risk by utilizing loss runs, MVRs, CAB reports, FMCSA data, and other relevant underwriting materials
  • Make eligibility and pricing recommendations in alignment with underwriting guidelines and carrier appetites

Proposal Preparation & Market Submission

  • Prepare comprehensive market submissions, quote proposals, and/or coverage comparisons.

Carrier & Client Relations

  • Communicate effectively with retail agents and internal stakeholders to gather complete and accurate risk data
  • Negotiate with carriers to secure competitive terms, leveraging existing market relationships

Account Monitoring & Policy Servicing

  • Track performance of bound accounts to identify profitability issues or loss trends
  • Address billing, endorsement, cancellation, and invoicing issues in partnership with Premium Accounting

Cross Department Collaboration

  • Partner with other teams to support marketing, sales and planning.
  • Industry Awareness & Administrative Support
  • Stay up to date on industry trends, DOT/FMCSA regulations, and carrier appetite shifts

 

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial insurance underwriting or brokerage (trucking, commercial auto, or casualty lines preferred)
  • Experience in both wholesale and/or retail brokerage settings
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Risk Management, or a related field preferred
  • Professional designations (e.g., TRS, CIC, CPCU, AU) strongly preferred
  • Active Property & Casualty license required; Surplus Lines license is a plus
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; knowledge of agency management systems (e.g., AMS360, IMS) a plus
  • Strong analytical, communication, and time-management skills
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently in a remote or hybrid environment

 

 

 

The starting annual pay scale for this position is listed below. Actual starting pay will be based on factors such as skills, qualifications, training, and experience. In addition, the company offers comprehensive benefits including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k) plan with match, paid time off, and other benefits.

ISC's salary ranges are determined by role and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations and could be higher or lower based on a multitude of factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
