Job Summary

The Field Service Engineer at JMS plays a critical, customer-facing role supporting the installation, startup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial water and wastewater equipment.

This position is ideal for a hands-on technical professional who enjoys working in the field, solving problems, and interacting directly with customers. The role focuses heavily on mechanical systems and overall equipment performance, with supporting involvement in electrical and control components as needed.

You will serve as a technical resource on-site, ensuring JMS equipment is installed correctly, operates reliably, and meets customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary on-site technical resource for commissioning, and startup, ensuring systems meet design specifications.
  • Lead troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and control systems, identifying root causes and implementing solutions.
  • Coordinate on-site with contractors, plant personnel, and internal stakeholders to drive progress and maintain schedules.
  • Perform system diagnostics on rotating equipment, VFDs, and control components to ensure reliable performance.
  • Conduct inspections, assessments, and preventative maintenance, identifying and addressing potential issues early.
  • Provide hands-on training to operators and maintenance teams on proper system operation and upkeep.
  • Generate clear field service reports documenting conditions, root causes, actions taken, and recommendations.
  • Act as a liaison between field operations and engineering, communicating findings and supporting improvements.
  • Lead post-installation support, including warranty service, follow-ups, and system optimization.
  • Maintain professional communication with customers, providing guidance and reinforcing JMS’s role as a trusted partner.

Qualifications, Desired Experience, and Skills

  • 3+ years of experience in field service, industrial maintenance, or equipment installation/startup
  • Strong mechanical aptitude (rotating equipment, mechanical assemblies, etc.)
  • Basic troubleshooting of control panels (motors, VFDs, basic control panels)
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and wiring diagrams.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues independently in the field
  • Strong communication and customer interaction skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Travel is approximately 85% and includes frequent overnight travel to customer sites across the U.S.

Preferred Qualifications (Not Required)

  • Experience in water/wastewater or similar industrial environments
  • Basic exposure to PLCs or automated systems (troubleshooting level, not programming)
  • Experience with system startups and commissioning

Education

  • Associate’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Technology (or equivalent hands-on experience)
  • Military or technical field experience will be considered in place of formal education

Why This Role Matters

This position directly impacts the performance and reliability of critical water treatment systems. Your work ensures that equipment operates as intended, supports regulatory compliance, and delivers long-term value to customers.
