At Kabam, we’re constantly raising the bar of excellence in free-to-play gaming. We hire for passion and diversity so that we can triumph in our collective skill. Our teams are made up of a fusion of personalities and interests bound together by a collaborative nature, fun-loving culture, and a drive to do what it takes to make great games. And this is where you come in…
The key function of the Principal Mission Designer role is to design and deliver the structure of mission-based content that drives player engagement on MCOC. They will own the design of our Story Quest replacement end-to-end — from concept and alignment through implementation, testing, and tuning — and will partner with Encounter Designers, Narrative, and Production to bring it to life. As a senior contributor, they are expected to operate with a high degree of independence, deliver the first piece of content in the new format, and codify the methodology so the team retains this specialized knowledge.
This role is a full-time, on-site position based 5 days a week at our Downtown Vancouver studio.
This role is a Temporary Full-Time position with a current approximate end date of November 15, 2026.
Key Accountabilities
Design and deliver the Story Quest replacement:
Establish the production process for the new content format:
Codify and transfer mission design knowledge
Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to bring content to life:
Iterate, balance, and tune based on data and feedback:
7+ years of game design experience on FTP properties, with a substantial portion focused on quest, mission, level, or campaign-structure design.
Demonstrated ownership of shipped mission-based or quest-based content in a live or large-scale game.
Strong ability to design the structure of player-facing content independently of the specific combat encounters within it.
Proven ability to coordinate with Encounter Designers, Narrative, and Production while remaining capable of independent encounter work when required.
Considerable experience with Marvel Contest of Champions' economy, gameplay, and social features is a must (aka, play the game!). Prior Kabam experience on MCOC is a significant asset given the contract length and the need to minimize onboarding.
Familiarity with RPG, BCG, and action genres on mobile, PC, console, and pen-and-paper platforms.
Track record of establishing or improving content production processes on a team.
Excellent communication skills, including documentation and presentation; able to produce methodology that others can follow.
Rock-solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple priorities.
Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and related spreadsheet software.
A strong desire to make the best games in the world alongside others that share your motivation.
Excited by this opportunity? Kabam is dedicated to growing our diverse and inclusive workforce, so if your past experience doesn’t perfectly match the listed requirements we encourage you to apply anyways - you could be a great fit for this or other positions.
