Position Summary:

Are you passionate about working with children and making a positive impact in the lives of immigrant and refugee families? Join our team as a Child Minder. This is a part-time position, working 21 hours per week. In this role, you will plan and implement child-minding activities for children under the age of 12 while their parents or caregivers attend workshops or appointments on site. You will help create a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment where children feel supported, included, and cared for.


Responsibilities:

  • Set up the childminding room and prepare for the day
  • Ensure the appropriate forms are completed during check-in and check-out
  • Plan age-appropriate play and activities
  • Meet all children's needs
  • Clean up after each shift and regularly sanitize toys
  • Inspect the child-minding room to ensure it remains a safe environment
  • Follow all safety protocols and perform practice drills with the children

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Child and Youth Care, Child Development, or a related field from a recognized Canadian institution; or an international credential that has been assessed and recognized as equivalent by the province.
  • Ability to meet the applicable Care for Newcomer Children staff qualification requirements based on program needs and the ages of children being cared for.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience working with children under the age of 12.
  • Strong interpersonal, cross-cultural, written, and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Additional languages and cultural knowledge are considered an asset.
  • Familiarity with the experiences and needs of newcomer children and families.
  • Successful completion of a criminal record check, including clearance to work with children and vulnerable populations.
