We’re looking for a motivated early-career engineer ready to launch a meaningful career designing industrial control systems for essential water and wastewater infrastructure. If you’ve recently graduated or have up to five years of experience and hold a bachelor’s degree in an engineering field, this is an excellent opportunity to join our Electrical and Controls team. You’ll work alongside experienced professionals on real projects that improve community water systems while gaining practical exposure to the systems integration side of the work to help shape your long-term career path.

Job Summary:

As an Electrical & Controls Engineer EI, you will support the design of process control and instrumentation systems for municipal water treatment plants, wastewater facilities, pump stations, and related infrastructure. Working closely with senior engineers, you’ll build hands-on experience in control system design while participating in selected integration and commissioning activities. This role provides structured mentoring and increasing responsibility as you develop your skills in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop engineering designs for industrial control systems, including P&IDs, instrumentation plans, loop diagrams, control narratives, and instrument specifications for water and wastewater processes.
  • Prepare technical reports, drawings, specifications, cost estimates, and client presentations.
  • Conduct site assessments and gather field data to support accurate design decisions.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams (electrical, mechanical, process, and civil engineers) under the direction of senior staff.
  • Participate in construction support activities, including submittal reviews, responses to RFIs, and occasional field observations.
  • Support factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and startup activities to gain direct exposure to control system integration and commissioning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, with clear pathways for growth into more independent design and integration responsibilities.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate effectively on complex technical challenges.
  • Ability to work independently on assigned tasks while proactively seeking guidance when needed.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD or similar CAD software (preferred).
  • Basic familiarity with control theory, instrumentation, or programmable logic controllers (PLCs) is a plus.
  • Passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam, or committed to pass within first year of employment.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.

Benefits:

  • Employee medical, dental, and vision insurance for employees and dependents
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • Company paid life insurance with option to buy up
  • Salary Advantage Program
  • Employee assistance program (EAP)
  • Flexible spending account (FSA)
  • Health savings account (HSA)
  • 401k match program & access to asset management services
  • Year-end bonus
  • Costco membership
  • Paid time off (PTO) and PTO sell back program
  • Paid Holidays
  • Parental Leave
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Paid day of community service
