ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS include but not limited to:

  • The indoor and outdoor work in operation, maintenance, and construction of water well field, water treatment plant, water distribution, and wastewater collection and pumping systems.
  • Maintain equipment, tools, and work area in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
  • Perform duties in accordance with the State Board of Health, IOSHA, and Utility

Treatment and Distribution Standards, Safety Rules, Regulations and Practices.

  • Receive and perform verbal or written orders from the Water & Sewer Working Foreman, Utility Director, or designee.
  • Outdoor work is performed in all weather conditions.
  • Must agree to enter the National Rural Water Association Apprenticeship program and obtain DSL and WT3 licenses.
  • Must comply with Standards of Apprenticeship requirements of the National Rural Water Association as described in SECTION XXII – RESPONSIBILIES OF THE APPRENTICE.
  • Perform less skilled or any other miscellaneous duties as required in the same or other utility departments.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: High School diploma or equivalent is required. Person with experience in operation, maintenance, and construction of water treatment

plant, water distribution system, and wastewater collection and pumping systems is

preferred.  Experience in operation of a
backhoe, trencher, Vactor, and training in

confined space entry, first aid, and CPR is preferred. Must have, or be able to obtain, OSHA 10-hour certification.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be 21 years of age or older. Must be willing to consent to the series of Hepatitis A and B vaccinations.  Must have a valid driver's license. Must have, or be able to obtain within 90 days, a CDL B license. Must be capable and willing to undergo required training such as confined space entry. Must have, or be able to obtain within 1 year, a current CPR certification. Must be able to obtain water distribution grade DSL license and water treatment WT3 license within 3 years of hire to maintain employment.  Must be able to read and communicate in a positive and respectful manner with co-workers, other departments, and the general public.



ADDITIONAL NOTIFICATIONS:

  • Cost of National Rural Water Association Apprenticeship program will be covered at the expense of Lawrenceburg Municipal Utilities (LMU) Water/Sewer Department.
  • If employee at their will, leaves employment with LMU within 3 years of the completion of the apprenticeship program shall reimburse the Utility a prorated portion of apprenticeship tuition. Prior to completion of one year 100%, completion of one year 66%, year two 33%.
  • Employee will not be eligible to sign a job bid until successfully completing the 3-year apprenticeship program, unless extenuating circumstances are mutually agreed upon between the City and the Union.
  • While in the apprenticeship program regular work hours are 5 days per week, 8 ½ hour shifts.
  • Employee will not be considered for ‘On call’ until completion of year 1 of apprenticeship program.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: May be required to take a physical exam, respiratory examination and fit test.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and arms. Must be able to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, walk, bend, talk, hear, and work in confined space. Must be able to push, pull and lift 50 lbs. unassisted and 100 lbs. assisted.


This is a Full Time position within the Union and includes a full benefit package including employer paid Medical, Vision, Dental, Employee Life, Short Term Disability; as well as participation in the IAM Pension Fund and Indiana Public Employee Retirement Fund Pension; paid Holidays; paid Birthday, and paid time off.
