The Lethbridge Police Service is currently accepting applications for a full-time term relief position of Access & Privacy Analyst. The term is anticipated to run from approximately September 2026 through September 2027, with the possibility of an extension.
The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) Access and Privacy Unit plays an integral role in LPS operations and is responsible for the service-wide administration of the Protection of Privacy Act (POPA) and the Access to Information Act (ATIA). The Access and Privacy Unit is responsible for exercising expert level knowledge of information access and protection of privacy laws, solid legislative analysis, professional judgement, and organizational awareness to manage and deliver the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Programs to all divisions and units of the LPS.
The Lethbridge Police Service is currently looking for a strong team player to join the Access and Privacy Unit on a term relief basis. As the Access and Privacy Analyst, the successful candidate will have an understanding of access and privacy legislation at a foundational level, along with the ability to apply key concepts and support the unit’s day to day operational activities.
This temporary full-time position falls under the protection of a collective agreement associated to the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) Local 70 contract. CUPE Local 70 represents employees are employed in number of civic departments within the City of Lethbridge.
Wage: $41.35 per hour (2026 Interim Job Rate)
Hours: 37.5 hours per week/75 hours bi-weekly (Flexible/Compressed Work Week is available)
Schedule: Monday to Friday, Day Shift
As the Access and Privacy Analyst you will:
- Receive and respond to routine requests for information and requests for access to information under POPA
- Define the scope and nature of the request
- Clarify requests with applicants, obtain necessary consents and additional pertinent documents.
- Determine location of responsive records and retrieve all responsive records for processing, consulting with internal business areas as required
- Determine what information will be withheld and what information will be released through application of exceptions to disclosure.
- Conduct legislated consultations with third parties which may include vendors, contractors, organizations, businesses and other public bodies in accordance with POPA or ATIA to determine if sufficient rationale has been provided to withhold the records
- Respond to queries from internal and external stakeholders regarding information access and protection of privacy and the procedures for obtaining access to LPS records.
- Liaise and maintain professional relationships within Lethbridge Police Service, the City of Lethbridge, all levels of Government, the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioners and all external stakeholders
- Assist in the review of Access and Privacy program processes and update as needed to create efficiencies and/or improvements
- Assist in ensuring proper collection of personal information across the organization
- Act as a resource for all LPS personnel in regards to their responsibilities under POPA and ATIA and LPS policy
- Perform other related duties as assigned
As the Access and Privacy Analyst you are:
- Knowledgeable in the interpretation and application of Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act and Regulations and access to information and privacy principles
- Familiar with records and information management concepts, policies, procedures and best practices.
- Analytical in your decision making based on review of relevant legislation, bylaws, policies and practices, and case law
- Committed to a high level of confidentiality, professionalism, accountability and integrity
- Effective in your ability to prioritize tasks, work independently and meet legislated timelines.
- An expert communicator
- Committed to establishing collaborative relationships with external and internal partners
As the Access and Privacy analysts you have:
- Two or more years of post secondary education
- At least one (1) year working experience with access and privacy
- An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and/or transferable experience may be considered
- Completion of the University of Alberta Information Access and Protection of Privacy certification program or equivalent from a recognized Canadian post-secondary institution is considered an asset.
The successful candidate is required to consent to a police security clearance, which includes the voluntary completion and submission of a personal disclosure form (lifestyle questionnaire), criminal and police records check, reference checks and truth verification through polygraph examination.
STEPS OF HIRING PROCESS
1. Application Review - All applications (cover letter and resume) will be reviewed for relevant qualifications, education, experience, training, and skills.
2. Interview, Personal Disclosure Form (PDF), and (for external applicants) Security Clearance Declaration - Selected applicants will be contacted to schedule a Behavioral Descriptive Interview. As part of this stage:
• External applicants/non LPS employees will be required to complete a Personal Disclosure Form (PDF) and a Security Clearance Declaration.
• Internal LPS employees will be required to complete a Personal Disclosure Form (PDF) if they have not previously completed a Polygraph Examination with LPS and are applying to a position requiring a higher level of access than their current role.
3. Police Fingerprinting Check - Completion of a satisfactory police fingerprinting check.
• Applicable to external applicants/non LPS employees.
4. Polygraph Examination Procedure - Successful applicants will be required to complete a Polygraph Examination Procedure.
• Applicable to external applicants/non LPS employees.
• Applicable to internal LPS employees who have not previously completed a Polygraph Examination with LPS and who are applying to a position requiring a higher level of access than their current role.
5. Security Clearance Check - A Security Clearance Check will be conducted.
• Applicable to external applicants/non LPS employees.
6. Reference Verification - A minimum of three professional references will be conducted
• Applicable to external applicants/non LPS employees.
7. Selection and Offer - Successful candidate(s) will be selected and offered the position.
8. Fair and Uniform Process - All components of the selection process will be administered, scored, evaluated, and interpreted in a fair and uniform manner.
9. Estimated Timeline - The hiring process may take approximately two to three months.

Our police service dogs have minimal interaction with employees on site under the supervision of a trained handler.
