Components Lab Team Leader

LifeSouth Community Blood Centers is currently seeking an experienced laboratory technician to join our team as a Components Laboratory Team Leader in Madison, AL. This position is responsible for the safe handling and processing of blood and blood components and for performing daily supervisory duties. The selected candidate will be working in a highly regulated environment to prepare components intended for transfusion.

• →Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws
• →Prepare blood and blood products
• →Perform cell washing for units as deemed necessary by the Components Laboratory Supervisor
• →Rejuvenate and freeze selected units for extended storage
• →Ensure workflow and production in the lab is at the target level
• →Perform and/or monitor quality control (QC) on all blood products and equipment
• →Train coworkers/subordinates after successfully completing classroom, on-the-job and other training as required
• →May be called in after hours or weekends to perform needed procedures

• High school diploma or GED
• Six months of components experience and completion of all relevant training modules
• Must have good manual dexterity and the ability to operate equipment
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
• Ability to do basic math, including addition, subtraction, proportions, percentages, scientific notation, etc.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends and holidays
• Ability to perform work that requires frequent standing, walking, lifting, grasping and repetitive motion. Lifting up to 50 pounds. Occasional stooping, squatting, pushing, pulling, climbing, overhead lifting
• Associate’s degree preferred
• Valid driver's license preferred
• Medical Technologist (MT) license or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification preferred
