The Maintenance Manager is responsible for the leadership, performance, and continuous improvement of maintenance operations at LightForce Orthodontics. This role leads the maintenance team and is accountable for equipment reliability, preventive maintenance execution, maintenance planning, workforce development, and overall maintenance department performance across a 24/7 advanced manufacturing environment. 

The Maintenance Manager provides strategic direction and day-to-day leadership for Maintenance Technicians I, II, and III while ensuring maintenance resources, systems, and processes support safe, efficient, and reliable manufacturing operations. This position partners closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Operations teams to maximize equipment uptime, improve asset reliability, and support the organization's operational objectives. 

This role is responsible for the administration and continuous improvement of maintenance programs, including preventive maintenance, calibration, maintenance planning, asset management, and CMMS administration. The Maintenance Manager establishes department goals, monitors key performance indicators, develops team capabilities, manages maintenance budgets and resources, and drives continuous improvement initiatives that enhance equipment performance, operational efficiency, and long-term asset reliability.

Responsibilities

  • Directly supervise Maintenance Technicians I, II, and III, including scheduling, workload distribution, on-call coverage, and daily maintenance operations. 
  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings, provide coaching and performance feedback, and complete annual performance evaluations. 
  • Identify skill development opportunities and establish training plans to support employee growth, technical competency, and succession planning. 
  • Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, safety, continuous learning, and operational excellence. 
  • Own and oversee the preventive maintenance program to ensure maintenance activities are planned, scheduled, and executed effectively across production equipment and facility systems. 
  • Ensure effective administration of maintenance programs, including preventive maintenance, calibration, asset management, maintenance planning, and CMMS utilization. 
  • Establish maintenance priorities and allocate resources to minimize equipment downtime and support production objectives. 
  • Ensure maintenance records, work orders, asset histories, and documentation are accurate, complete, and maintained within the CMMS. 
  • Develop, review, and update maintenance procedures, standard work instructions, and department processes to support safe and efficient operations. 
  • Establish, monitor, and report maintenance key performance indicators (KPIs), including equipment uptime, preventive maintenance completion, downtime, Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR). 
  • Lead reliability improvement initiatives through preventive maintenance optimization, failure analysis, equipment lifecycle planning, and continuous improvement activities. 
  • Lead root cause investigations for significant equipment failures and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained. 
  • Promote and support Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives that improve equipment performance, reliability, safety, and productivity. 
  • Partner with Production, Engineering, Quality, and Safety teams to identify and implement equipment and process improvements. 
  • Develop and manage the maintenance operating budget, including labor, spare parts, contractor services, and maintenance-related expenditures. 
  • Oversee maintenance inventory and spare parts management to ensure critical components are available while maintaining cost-effective inventory levels. 
  • Evaluate maintenance resource requirements and make recommendations for staffing, equipment, tooling, and department investments. 
  • Ensure compliance with company safety policies, GMP requirements, SOPs, LOTO procedures, environmental requirements, and applicable company standards. 
  • Promote safe work practices and maintain a safe working environment for employees, contractors, and visitors. 
  • Support facility audits, inspections, and corrective action activities related to maintenance operations and documentation. 
  • Maintain the hazardous waste compliance program, including oversight of container labeling, accumulation timelines, and inspection logs to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in industrial maintenance, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical field preferred. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, military experience, apprenticeship programs, and relevant maintenance leadership experience will be considered. 
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive industrial maintenance experience within a manufacturing, medical device, aerospace, or other regulated production environment 
  • Two (2) or more years of supervisory, lead, or management experience overseeing maintenance personnel, including employee development, performance management, scheduling, and resource allocation. 
  • Two (2) or more years of supervisory, lead, or management experience overseeing maintenance personnel, including employee development, performance management, scheduling, and resource allocation. 
  • Experience developing, implementing, and managing preventive maintenance programs, maintenance planning activities, and equipment reliability initiatives. 
  • Prior experience in a 24/7 continuous-process manufacturing facility is a plus
  • Experience utilizing Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) for maintenance planning, work order management, asset tracking, reporting, and performance analysis. 
  • Experience leading root cause investigations and implementing corrective actions to improve equipment reliability, uptime, and maintenance effectiveness. 
  • Experience managing maintenance budgets, contractor services, spare parts inventory, or capital improvement projects preferred. 
  • Experience working collaboratively with Production, Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Operations teams to support manufacturing objectives and operational performance. 
  • Experience in an additive manufacturing, medical device, aerospace, or similarly regulated production environment is a plus
  • Strong working knowledge of industrial maintenance practices, including preventative, corrective and predictive maintenance and equipment reliability principles. 
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automated manufacturing systems commonly used in industrial production environments. 
  • Understanding of industrial furnace systems, compressed air systems, facility infrastructure, process equipment, and supporting utilities. 
  • Strong proficiency with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) including preventive  maintenance administration, work order management, asset history tracking, maintenance reporting and performance analysis.
  • Ability to establish, monitor, and analyze maintenance performance metrics such as equipment uptime, preventive maintenance compliance, downtime, Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF), and Mean Time to Repair (MTTR). 
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals and technical documentation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and Google Workspace, including the ability to prepare reports, analyze data, manage projects, and communicate effectively across the organization. 
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis methodologies, failure investigations, corrective action processes, and reliability improvement strategies. 
  • Working knowledge of calibration programs, documentation requirements, and equipment traceability practices in a manufacturing environment. 
  • Strong understanding of Lean Manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement methodologies, and maintenance best practices. 
  • Knowledge of maintenance planning, scheduling, labor allocation, contractor management, spare parts inventory control, and budget administration. 
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, conflict resolution, and problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively lead cross-functional teams and maintenance personnel. 
  • Working knowledge of GMP requirements, LOTO procedures, machine guarding principles, PPE requirements, and general industrial safety practices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Maintenance, Manufacturing, Business Management, or a related field. 
  • Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM), Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP), or other continuous improvement and maintenance-related certifications. 
  • Experience in medical device, additive manufacturing, aerospace, pharmaceutical, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments. 
  • Experience leading maintenance operations in a 24/7 manufacturing environment.
  • Experience developing and managing maintenance budgets, capital projects, equipment procurement, and facility improvement initiatives. 
  • Experience implementing or optimizing preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, reliability, or asset management programs. 
  • Experience with maintenance KPI development, performance reporting, and data-driven decision making. 
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects involving Production, Engineering, Quality, Safety, and Operations teams. 
  • Licensed Electrician or equivalent electrical certification. 
  • PLC programming, controls integration, or advanced automation experience. 
  • Experience managing contractors, service providers, and vendor relationships. 
  • Formal leadership, supervisory, or management training. 
  • Forklift, crane, aerial lift, or other industrial equipment certifications.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, climb ladders and perform physical work for extended periods.
  • Use hand and powered tools, manipulate parts and hardware 
  • Ability to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to heat, noise, chemicals and airborne particles while using required PPE.
  • Ability to safely access equipment located above shoulder height, below waist level and in confined or restricted access areas as authorized and trained.
