Lila is seeking an Electrochemistry Co-op to join the Physical Sciences team and support its electrosynthesis program. Working alongside Lila scientists, you will run electrosynthesis experiments, characterize materials and products, and contribute to rigorous experimental data generation, analysis, and documentation.

You will collaborate with engineering, software, and data teams as needed to assemble, debug, and refine experimental workflows. Your work will sit at the intersection of electrochemistry, materials characterization, and experimental automation.

This role supports Lila’s broader effort to build toward autonomous laboratory workflows in the electrochemical sciences, with direct exposure to applied electrorefining and electrowinning research.

  • Conduct electrosynthesis experiments using established protocols and safety standards.
  • Characterize products, electrolytes, and electrodes using complementary analytical techniques.
  • Analyze, visualize, and quality-control experimental data.
  • Troubleshoot instruments, workflows, and data issues.
  • Maintain thorough, well-organized experimental documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineering, software, and data teams on workflow improvements.
  • Communicate findings, issues, and next steps clearly to the team.
  • Pursuing or recently completed a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Hands-on electrochemistry experience, including electrodeposition, CV, CP, CA, EIS, LSV, or OCP.
  • Experience with characterization techniques for electrolytes and electrodes, such as ICP, conductivity, pH, surface roughness, or related measurements.
  • Experience handling corrosive or high-temperature solutions safely.
  • Proficiency in Python for data analysis and visualization.
  • Self-driven and able to work independently in a fast-paced, evolving research environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail in hands-on technical work.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills for documenting scientific work.
