Position Overview

Lincoln Tech is seeking a skilled and experienced welding professional to serve as an in-house Welding Instructor for our training program preparing students for Special Mechanic – Welder roles with NJ Transit. This instructor will draw on deep hands-on experience in bus maintenance and multi-process welding to deliver practical, safety-focused instruction that gets students field-ready.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver hands-on instruction in a full range of welding processes including soldering, brazing, gas welding (steel, aluminum, cast iron), arc welding (DC electric, AC electric, MIG, TIG), and plasma cutting.
• Teach students to lay out, fabricate, and assemble components, and to weld in all positions including sheet metal work.
• Instruct students in bus body repair, including the removal, replacement, and alignment of body parts and components across multiple bus types (MCI, NABI, New Flyer, and coaches).
• Train students in body filling, sanding, and fiberglass repair techniques.
• Teach proper use of tools and equipment including hydraulic pistons, come-a-longs, porta-powers, and frame straightening devices.
• Incorporate all relevant safety rules, regulations, and shop safety policies throughout instruction.
• Instruct students in reading and interpreting blueprints, sketches, parts manuals, and technical drawings.
• Teach students to accurately complete daily time tickets and required documentation.
• Assess student progress through practical evaluations and provide constructive, forward-looking feedback to support skill development.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe instructional environment

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in the welding field, with demonstrated proficiency across multiple welding processes.
• Certified welder with the ability to provide copies of prior certifications.
• Proficiency in reading blueprints, sketches, and technical drawings.
• Strong knowledge of shop safety policies, welding safety regulations, and OSHA standards.
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Commercial Driver License (CDL) or Commercial Learner's Permit (CLP) required at time of hire.
• Ability to pass pre-employment physical and background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

• ASE certification.
• Experience working on transit or fleet vehicles, particularly NJ Transit bus types.
• Prior experience training, mentoring, or supervising welders in a shop or field setting.
