The following is an overview of the role and what we are looking for in a successful candidate.

The SMB Construction Coordinator supports the construction and delivery of fiber optic services to small and medium business (SMB) customers, including service laterals, network extensions, and enterprise customer installations. This role coordinates construction activities between internal departments, contractors, business customers, property managers, and utility stakeholders to ensure projects are completed on time, within quality standards, and with minimal disruption to customer operations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate construction activities for SMB fiber installations, including service laterals, underground construction, and customer premise connectivity.
  • Track projects from design release through construction completion and customer turn-up.
  • Monitor project schedules and proactively identify risks that may impact delivery timelines.
  • Coordinate material availability, contractor schedules, and customer access requirements.
  • Escalate project issues and delays to the Supervisor, SMB Construction as needed.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for business customers during the construction phase.
  • Coordinate site surveys, construction scheduling, and building access with customers, property managers, and landlords.
  • Communicate project status, milestones, and potential impacts to customers.
  • Conduct pre-construction and post-construction site visits when required.
  • Ensure customer expectations are managed throughout the installation process.
  • Coordinate daily activities with contract construction crews performing boring, conduit placement, restoration, and drop construction.
  • Monitor contractor performance, schedule adherence, and work quality.
  • Verify completed work and provide documentation for contractor billing validation.
  • Assist with resolving construction issues involving subcontractors, utilities, and municipalities.
  • Attend contractor meetings and field coordination calls as required.
  • Maintain accurate project records, status updates, and construction documentation.
  • Ensure redlines, as-builts, permits, and project closeout documents are completed and submitted.
  • Update construction management systems and tracking tools with current project information.
  • Utilize Vetro and other company systems to track project progress and maintain records.
  • Provide reporting on project status, risks, and delivery performance.
  • Coordinate with Business Sales, SMB Service Delivery, Engineering, Operations, and Construction teams to support successful service delivery.
  • Communicate installation schedules and milestone updates to internal stakeholders.
  • Support project handoff processes between construction, splicing, and activation teams.
  • Assist in implementing department processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct field inspections to verify compliance with construction standards and project requirements.
  • Ensure customer installations meet company quality standards for workmanship, restoration, and documentation.
  • Verify proper labeling, documentation, and construction practices.
  • Support the review of test results and project acceptance requirements.
  • Identify and address quality issues before customer turn-up.
  • Promote adherence to OSHA, NESC, company safety standards, and established work practices.
  • Observe contractor safety compliance during field activities.
  • Report unsafe conditions and assist with corrective action efforts.
  • Support compliance with permits, right-of-way requirements, and utility coordination.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate at all levels of the organization with a high level of professionalism
  • Ability to appropriately prioritize and manage multiple requests at once and consistently meet deadlines
  • Organized, detailed, and reliable approach to work
  • Proactive and resourceful with strong problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Versatility and willingness to work within constantly changing priorities
  • Positive and can-do attitude with a sustained high level of enthusiasm
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up skills.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in cable or other telecommunications underground fiber construction
  • Strong knowledge of OSP design and construction methods
  • Experience managing contractors and coordinating multi-site construction projects
  • Ability to work overtime as needed
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Office programs.
  • Ability to learn and navigate various internal systems with limited training
  • Must be able to provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Walking- up to 80%
  • Standing- up to 80%
  • Reaching- up to 10%
  • Lifting and/or bending- up to 10%
  • Work environment- indoors and outdoors
  • Able to lift up 45 pounds
  • Travel: 10%
