Job Summary: The Clinical Resource Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) possesses advanced skills in assessment and appropriate application of respiratory care services.  Is responsible for the coordination of respiratory care services on their shift.  Resolves technical problems and performs quality improvement studies.  Records treatment and diagnostic information in the medical record.  Demonstrates advanced clinical assessment, problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills; maintains a recognized area of clinical expertise and uses it in practice, teaching, and consultation; serves as a role model and provides positive influence to initiate and facilitate change.  Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: An Associate's Degree from an accredited respiratory therapy program is required. Bachelor's Degree in respiratory therapy preferred. Two (2) years of clinical experience required.

Knowledge and Skills: Able to assemble and troubleshoot patient/machine equipment; draw blood; assess (patient or examination); perform preventative maintenance; calibrate equipment. Capable of comprehending microprocessor equipment, and departmental and hospital information system. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Respiratory Care Practitioner License from the State of California is required. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) is required. Basic Life Support Provider (BLS) certification and maintaining a current age-specific Advanced Life Support Provider certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) through an American Heart Association (AHA) provider are required. Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP) is preferred.
