Department: UHC: GYN/OB - FMO

Job Summary: The Ultrasound Imaging Specialist, under minimal supervision, performs complex diagnostic ultrasound and vascular exams in accordance with department protocols. Provides high level of care to the ultrasound and vascular patients. Supports the major objectives of the department such as excellence in clinical services, in educational activities, in research and development activities, in employee environmental conditions, and in reduction of medical cost. Maintains proficiency in performance and workflow. Assists and maintains training and education in radiology department as well as within specific modality. Required to be on-call and hours may vary according to assignments. Performs other duties as needed.

Education and Experience: Graduate of a Diagnostic Medical Sonography program. Minimum two years' experience as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer in a medical center preferred.

Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of Abdomen, Abdominal Doppler, OB/GYN, Small Parts, and Interventional Sonographic Procedures.  Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; collaborate and accept direction. Think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the work place/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch.

Licensures and Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required. Core Certification of Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in Abdomen, Obstetrics or Gynecology required or must attain within six months of hire date. Specialty credential in Breast, Neurosurgery, Pediatric Sonography, Vascular Technology, Fetal Echocardiography, maternal-fetal medicine or Musculoskeletal Sonography preferred.
