Building Services Officer – Family Hub @ Shipman
Scale 4, Fixed Term Contract until 31st March 2029
About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and reliable Building Services Officer to join our team at Family Hub @ Shipman. This is an important operational role that helps ensure our building remains safe, secure, welcoming, and fully functional for staff, partners, children, young people, and families accessing services.
As a key member of the team, you will support the day-to-day management of the building, undertaking a wide range of responsibilities including building inspections, health and safety checks, minor maintenance, room set-up, fire safety compliance, porterage, and supporting emergency procedures.
This role requires a hands-on individual who takes pride in maintaining high standards and can work independently whilst contributing positively to a wider team.
Key Responsibilities
- Opening and closing the building and maintaining site security.
- Undertaking routine building inspections and reporting issues.
- Carrying out weekly compliance checks including fire alarms, emergency lighting and water safety monitoring.
- Supporting health and safety compliance through risk assessments and safe working practices.
- Performing minor maintenance tasks and coordinating repairs.
- Setting up and clearing rooms for meetings, events and service delivery.
- Managing deliveries, storage and waste disposal.
- Supporting planned and emergency evacuations as a Fire Warden.
- Providing First Aid where required (training provided).
- Maintaining external areas and ensuring the site remains safe, clean and welcoming.
- Participating in an emergency call-out rota.
What We're Looking For
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working within a building, facilities, caretaking or site management environment.
- Understands the importance of health and safety and building compliance.
- Has excellent customer service and communication skills.
- Is confident using IT systems and mobile devices to record inspections and maintenance activities.
- Can work independently, prioritise tasks and use initiative.
- Demonstrates a flexible, solution-focused approach.
- Is committed to providing excellent services to residents, visitors and colleagues.
- Enjoys working as part of a team and contributing to service improvement.
Additional Information
- This is not a hybrid role and requires attendance on site every day from 8.30am onwards to cover core Family Hub delivery.
- Saturday working will be required.
- Training will be provided for relevant responsibilities including First Aid, Fire Warden duties and compliance requirements where necessary.
