This role is responsible for supporting the operation, monitoring, maintenance, and reliability of electrical systems within facility and mission-critical environments. The position works closely with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to ensure safe system performance, operational continuity, and compliance with safety and reliability standards. The individual will support both day-to-day operations and maintenance activities across critical electrical infrastructure.
Responsibilities
~3 min read- →Perform day-to-day operation, monitoring, and maintenance of electrical systems within facility and mission-critical environments.
- →Maintain safe and reliable operation of low-voltage (LV), medium-voltage (MV), and associated electrical distribution systems.
- →Execute preventive maintenance (PM), corrective maintenance (CM), and emergency response activities.
- →Troubleshoot electrical faults, equipment failures, and abnormal operating conditions.
- →Support facility uptime, reliability, and operational continuity requirements.
- →Respond to alarms, system abnormalities, and electrical emergencies in accordance with site procedures.
- →Maintain compliance with site safety policies, LOTO procedures, NFPA 70E requirements, and electrical safety standards.
- →Accurately document work activities, findings, and completed tasks within CMMS platforms such as IBM Maximo.
- →Support operational readiness, commissioning turnover, and startup activities for new systems or modifications.
- →Perform routine rounds and inspections of electrical infrastructure.
- →Monitor electrical system performance through SCADA, BMS, EPMS, or local control interfaces.
- →Verify electrical system parameters including voltage, current, power quality, frequency, load balance, breaker status, and UPS alarms.
- →Operate electrical equipment in accordance with approved switching procedures and operational sequences.
- →Support planned shutdowns, maintenance outages, and energization activities.
- →Assist with electrical isolations and safe restoration of systems.
- →Escalate abnormal operating conditions to engineering or site leadership.
- →Perform preventive maintenance on switchgear, MCCs, panelboards, transformers, UPS systems, PDUs/RPPs, ATS systems, generators, battery systems, lighting systems, and VFDs.
- →Conduct infrared (IR) inspections and identify thermal anomalies.
- →Perform breaker inspections, cleaning, torque verification, and operational testing.
- →Support battery inspections, impedance testing, and battery replacements.
- →Assist with generator maintenance, load bank testing, and fuel system inspections.
- →Replace failed electrical components and coordinate vendor support when required.
- →Maintain spare parts inventory and critical electrical equipment inventory.
- →Diagnose electrical faults using testing instruments, meters, and system trends.
- →Analyze nuisance trips, harmonics, overloads, and power quality issues.
- →Support root cause analysis (RCA) activities following equipment failures or outages.
- →Identify reliability improvement opportunities and recurring failure trends.
- →Assist engineering teams with implementation of corrective actions.
- →Review electrical alarms and historical trends to proactively identify operational risks.
- →Follow all site-specific EHS requirements and electrical safe work practices.
- →Execute Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures prior to maintenance activities.
- →Utilize proper PPE for energized electrical work.
- →Participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations.
- →Maintain arc flash awareness and compliance with electrical safety boundaries.
- →Identify and report unsafe conditions or Good Catch observations.
- →Complete maintenance reports and work order documentation accurately.
- →Update CMMS records with labor hours, findings, materials used, and equipment status.
- →Maintain electrical one-line diagrams, switching logs, and operational records.
- →Support development and revision of SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, switching procedures, and PM procedures.
- →Participate in shift passdowns and operational turnover meetings.
- →Support startup and commissioning activities for new electrical systems.
- →Participate in pre-functional inspections, energization verification, functional testing, and Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
- →Verify systems are installed and operating in accordance with design intent.
- →Assist with punch list resolution and turnover documentation activities.
- →Any other duties or responsibilities that may be assigned to you in your role.
- Strong understanding of MV/LV electrical distribution systems and critical facility operations.
- Experience maintaining switchgear, UPS systems, generators, transformers, ATS systems, and power distribution equipment.
- Knowledge of SCADA, BMS, EPMS, and power monitoring systems.
- Ability to read and interpret one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, control drawings, and panel schedules.
- Experience using multimeters, meggers, clamp meters, IR cameras, and power quality analyzers.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills related to electrical systems and reliability.
- Familiarity with preventive and corrective maintenance practices within critical environments.
- Strong understanding of NFPA 70E, NEC requirements, and electrical safety procedures.
- Experience working with CMMS systems such as IBM Maximo.
- Excellent communication, documentation, and coordination skills.
- Commitment to safety, reliability, and operational excellence.
- Associate’s degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or related field preferred.
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification preferred.
- NFPA 70E training certification preferred.
- Electrical maintenance or operations-related certifications preferred.
Proof of education, licenses, and certifications will be required where applicable.
