The Senior Product Designer at Lumin Digital plays a pivotal role in shaping the user experience of our digital banking platform. As a trusted problem-solver and cross-functional collaborator, you will lead complex design initiatives from discovery to delivery, helping define and build thoughtful, user-centered solutions that enhance the financial lives of millions. In this role, you'll work closely with Product, Engineering, Research, and fellow Designers to translate insights into scalable and elegant experiences. You’ll also contribute to evolving our design system, mentoring peers, and elevating design quality across the organization. This is a high-ownership, fast-paced role on a small team where you will be expected to set design direction, bring a contemporary visual language to the product, and operate as a strong, opinionated voice for the user experience across all product areas.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design process for key features or product areas—driving discovery, prototyping, design delivery, and iteration.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners (Product Managers, Engineers, Researchers) to frame problems, validate solutions, and deliver usable, accessible designs.

  • Translate requirements into detailed UX deliverables, including journey maps, wireframes, flows, high-fidelity mockups, and interactive prototypes.

  • Participate in and apply user research insights, ensuring design decisions are grounded in real user needs and behaviors.

  • Contribute to and evolve Lumin’s design system, improving consistency, scalability, and usability across the product.

  • Mentor and support other designers, offering feedback through design reviews, critiques, and shared project work.

  • Advocate for user-centered design throughout the product development process, balancing business goals, technical constraints, and customer needs.

  • Clearly communicate design rationale, collaborating effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Set design direction within established frameworks, making decisive, well-articulated decisions that unblock cross-functional partners and elevate the overall product experience.

  • Actively leverage AI tools (including Claude and ChatGPT) to accelerate and enhance the design lifecycle—from ideation and documentation to prototyping and decision-making.

  • Contribute to a collaborative, feedback-driven design culture, especially within a distributed team environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, HCI, Interaction Design, or a related field preferred

  • At least 6 years of professional experience in product design, UX/UI design, or similar roles.

  • Demonstrated success designing and shipping complex, responsive digital products—preferably in SaaS, FinTech, or other regulated environments.

  • Strong portfolio showcasing process, outcomes, and design rationale across multiple projects.

  • Experience working within and contributing to a design system, preferably in Figma.

  • Prior exposure to user research methods, such as usability testing, interviews, or data-informed design decisions.

  • Proven experience working in a fast-paced environment where independent design decisions and direction-setting were expected from the outset.

  • Expertise in UX, Interaction Design, and UI design, with attention to detail, consistency, and accessibility.

  • Ability to work across the product lifecycle—from problem definition to post-launch iteration.

  • Skilled in wireframing, visual design, prototyping, and documenting user stories or acceptance criteria.

  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and storytelling skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions.

  • Comfortable working in Agile environments, with familiarity using tools such as JIRA and Confluence.

  • Actively uses AI tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT) to enhance design workflows and decision-making

  • Strong visual design sensibility with the ability to contribute to evolving a contemporary product aesthetic.

  • Experience facilitating or participating in design studios or workshops is a plus.

  • Familiarity with FinTech, mobile payments, or banking platforms is preferred.

  • Minimal, generally 12 days or less per year
