    This position is a flex position. Candidates will be hired in at a level I, with a starting salary of $28.95 hourly. After a 6–24-month period, the selected candidate will be evaluated to determine if they meet the criteria to flex to a level II, with a starting salary of $30.42 hourly.

    HOURS OF WORK: Swing (Shift 2). 4/10’s, 3:00pm-1:30am, Mon-Thurs.

    The ideal candidate for this position will demonstrate experience scheduling and performing preventative maintenance on multiple vehicles and equipment; This candidate will have knowledge of vehicle inspections, including adding and/or changing fluids, oils, lubricants, and filters; The ideal candidate will be able perform all above tasks with little to no supervision, while maintaining service records and logs.

    INTRODUCTION: Human Resources will screen applications and supplemental questionnaires. Candidates possessing the strongest skills and experience for this position will be forwarded to the hiring department for further evaluation and to determine who will be invited to the formal interview process. The successful candidate may be required to pass a drug screening, background check and may be required to pass a job-related physical evaluation.

    Under general supervision, services and inspects vehicles and equipment; assists journey-level mechanics; and performs related duties as assigned.

    The level and scope of the knowledge and abilities listed below vary according to the I versus II levels distinguished in the previous section.

    Basic operations and maintenance of vehicle systems and components; use and maintenance of basic shop, hand and power tools, such as sockets, wrenches, torque wrenches, pneumatic wrenches, greasing tools and other related tools; types and grades of lubricants, coolants, brake, steering and other fluids used in automotive and equipment servicing; use and maintenance of tire changing and balancing equipment; safe working practices and safety equipment related to the work; federal, state and local laws and regulations pertaining to the handling and disposal of hazardous waste and clean air requirements.

    Operate basic shop, hand and power tools, vehicle hoists and jacks; operate tire changing and balancing equipment; understand and follow oral and written instructions; keep basic logs and records.

    A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined is:

    Fleet Service Worker I – One year of responsible vehicle servicing experience.

    A Fleet Service Worker I may be considered for advancement to Fleet Service Worker II after demonstrating proficiency to perform the full range of duties of the latter class.  Proficiency criteria and the process for demonstrating performance at the levels established in the criteria are established jointly by hiring authorities and the Director, Human Resources and are described in a separate document.

    Typically, a Fleet Service Worker I is expected to be capable of meeting the proficiency criteria within a 6–24-month period, depending on an individual’s prior experience and progression in performing the full range of Fleet Service Worker II duties as described in the established performance criteria.

    A valid Nevada commercial driver’s license, Class A and appropriate endorsements, or the ability to obtain one within six months of date of hire, and the ability to maintain insurability under the District’s Vehicle Insurance Policy.
