Job Title: Software Engineering Manager

Location : France, Nice

Type: Full time

 Main responsibilities

Given the nature of our flexible team and fast-moving environment, the range of responsibilities is wide and provides an opportunity to develop your skills and experience in many areas:

  • Run an effective team that delivers high-quality user experiences in a timely fashion

  • Work with engineers, product manager, designers, and other stakeholders to accomplish key outcomes.
  • Coaching team members by providing technical and leadership guidance and feedback for their personal development and growth. This includes setting clear goals and tracking progress.
  • Leading hiring and interviewing efforts to grow the team by working with the recruiting department.
  • Communicating progress with stakeholders across the company.

Requirements

  • As a leader of an engineering team, the Technical Lead will need a deep technical background.
  • Demonstrable team leadership experience. It’s estimated that you’ll be growing and leading the team for 60% of the time with 40% hands on development, learning and improving our product suite.
  • Proven expertise in Python as well as JavaScript, TypeScript, CSS and frameworks such as Angular or React. We work with React, Mythril, Open Layer and Web RTC but can cross-train.
  • Strong understanding/experience of asynchronous programming, preferably with Python but other languages are acceptable.
  • Any knowledge of the following would be highly desirable: Kubernetes, Docker, Rust, C, PostgreSQL, NoSQL.
  • Prior engineering experience from the defence or security industry is desirable but by not essential.
  • Familiarity with algorithms, data structures, storage systems, cloud infrastructure, front-end frameworks, and other technical tools.
  • A desire to work on software and applications that have real-world impact.
  • Able to work on large codebases and learn new tools.
  • Guide technical discussions and evaluate trade-offs to help other stakeholders to take informed decisions.
  • Proven leader and manager with strong communication skills to effectively interact with our entire organization.
  • Experience with organizational design.

Education

  • We prefer a degree level in a science or engineering discipline in the areas of: Computer Science, Mathematics, or Physics.

Integration and interfacing

  • Our core activity is safety and security applications. We're bringing the latest web technologies to real-world hardware i.e. we don't work in the cloud. We interface with very diverse equipment: radar, sonar, thermal imaging, software-defined radios and more. Our UI runs on touchscreen displays, tablets, phones, smart-glasses...

Challenges

  • We operate in mission critical environments. Our systems can operate at sea and in high security areas with limited connectivity to the data centre. So, all your assumptions about cloud development techniques and operating environments will be constantly challenged. Timelines are strict, and creativity is often required to solve unexpected technical issues. It can be extremely diverse, interesting, and rewarding if you are up to the challenge!

The Work Environment

  • Development on Macs and Ubuntu: We're pragmatic so realize we also have to work with Windows occasionally.
  • Small team: Embracing modern development practices. New ideas are always encouraged, and we'll try most things, but we always settle on what works for us.
  • Diverse team: Our team is very multicultural including a mix of experienced engineers, successful sales and project managers balanced with the brightest young graduates.
  • Passionate: We are passionate and enjoy what we do!
