Associate Software Engineer
Quick Summary
Stage 1 — ScreeningA short 20-minute AI-powered conversation you can complete on your own schedule.
Matillion is the company behind Maia, the AI Data Automation platform.
In the AI economy, demand for data is exploding. Manual data engineering can’t keep up. Maia fixes that by combining 15 years of data expertise with agentic AI to eliminate the manual work that slows data teams down. Organisations like Cisco, DocuSign, and Slack are already using it to deliver real business impact, faster.
We started in Manchester and now we’re global - with teams across the UK, US and India.
We are driven, curious, energetic people who move fast, think big and hold ourselves to a high standard. We’re here to make a dent in the universe bigger than ourselves. And we’re looking for people who want to be part of it.
We have a fantastic new opportunity for an Associate Software Engineer to join the team. This is not a role where you will sit in the background waiting for permission to contribute. From day one you will be writing real code, solving real problems, and working alongside engineers who challenge each other to be better every day.
If you are at the start of your engineering career and want to work somewhere that moves fast, builds boldly, and takes AI seriously — this is your role.
Here is what to expect:
Stage 1 — Screening
A short 20-minute AI-powered conversation you can complete on your own schedule. It’s an opportunity to share more about yourself beyond your CV to help us understand how you can add value - your approach to problems, and your interest in the role. It can also answer your questions about Matillion. A human recruiter reviews every response — AI does not make hiring decisions here. If you’d prefer not to complete the AI interview, let us know and we’ll arrange a time for a recruiter to call you.
Stage 2 — Technical Test
A practical exercise designed to assess how you think and how you build. You are encouraged to use AI tools — we want to see how you use them, not whether you can avoid them. We will tell you exactly what to expect in advance.
Stage 3 — Team Interview
A conversation with your future manager and a member of the engineering team. We will go deeper on your technical thinking, how you approach problems, and how you work with others and how you’ll positively contribute towards our culture and values. We will also give you plenty of time to ask us questions.
Stage 4 — Offer
A transparent breakdown of salary, equity, and benefits — everything you need to make the right decision.
We aim to move quickly. You will hear from us within 7 days of your application.
At Matillion, we are committed to providing compensation in line with market standards based on the role, job family, job level and country. This role’s estimated annual salaried pay range for this position is £32,240 - £48,3600. The final salary will be based on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications demonstrated in the hiring process.
