We are currently seeking a UX Designer to help shape intuitive, engaging digital experiences across our ecommerce platforms (primarily desktop website and mobile app). This designer will collaborate closely with cross-functional teammates—including implementation managers, developers, and writers—and will not have direct reports. This role is based out of our Elmhurst, Illinois location.

Responsibilities

  • Conducting qualitative and basic quantitative research to understand the problem and guide design decisions.
  • Translating customer insights into wireframes, prototypes, and design recommendations
  • Clearly communicating design recommendations and prototypes to partner teams
  • Creating clear and effective user flows (wire frames to fully functional prototypes) that support our ecommerce strategy
  • Identifying and articulating usability issues in designs proposed by other teams and describing solutions
  • Partnering with product and engineering teams to refine and implement designs
  • Documenting design rationale, interaction patterns, and usability considerations
  • Synthesizing feedback from stakeholders with differing opinions and implementing it strategically to achieve great customer experiences.
  • 2+ years of experience
  • Proficiency in common UX and design tools (e.g., Figma, Framer, Sketch) is required.
  • Ability to break down complex, unstructured design problems into clear, actionable steps.
  • Demonstrated success in communicating the reasoning behind design choices to stakeholders beyond the design organization.
  • Team players who are excited by constraints and changing priorities rather than discouraged by them.
  • Curiosity and ability to develop understanding of McMaster-Carr, our customers, and the work of the teams we partner with.
  • Strong candidates demonstrate critical thinking, problem‑solving skills, and project management ability.

Total cash compensation ranges from $143,500 - $164,500, which includes annual cash profit sharing based on company profitability.
