LOCATION OF POSITION

Maryland State Police\r\nCentral Records Division\r\n1711 Belmont Ave\r\nBaltimore, MD 21244\r\n

Main Purpose of Job

This position within the Division is responsible for processing requests for copies of Maryland State Police Incident Reports in accordance with the Public Information Act to legally entitled parties and processes requests for copies of reports maintained in the repository. Requests are received via mail, telephone or walk-ins. Performs UCR duties within the Incident Reporting Section. Assists with forwarding reviewed UCR reports to the National UCR Program administered by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Reviews UCR (i.e. Summary and NIBRS) reports for reasonableness and any errors that have to be addressed by the UCR Contributors (police agencies).\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Duties include, but not limited\r\nto:\r\n\r\n\r\n Evaluates Public Information Act requests for Maryland State\r\n Police Reports (i.e. Investigation, Missing Person, Vehicle, Driving Under the\r\n Influence);\r\n Obtains, analyzes and interprets data in order to apply rules,\r\n regulations and standards in accordance with laws (i.e. Public Information\r\n Act);\r\n Search for the requested report in the MSP RMS, download, and do\r\n the sociological redactions (i.e. telephone numbers, addresses);\r\n Determine if the report is able to be released, send 10-day letter\r\n and collect appropriate fees from requestor;\r\n Determine release ability of reports in part or whole, deleting\r\n non-releasable portions of requested documents or recommend that the entire\r\n report be denied in accordance with SOP and appropriate laws;\r\n Process all funds collected by the IR Section to ensure proper\r\n logging on appropriate form, review checks for correct information and forward\r\n to Division Administrative Support staff for deposit;\r\n Performs other related duties as assigned.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:� Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate.\r\nExperience:� Two years of experience performing administrative staff, clerical, clerical technical, or secretarial work.�\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Candidates may substitute 30 college credit hours from an accredited college or university for each year of the required experience.\r\n2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned officer involving staff work requiring regular use of independent judgment and analysis in applying and interpreting rules and regulations in accordance with agency laws and policies on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to\r\napplicants who possess the following preferred qualifications. It is important\r\nthat you include clear and specific information on your application regarding\r\nyour qualifications.\r\n\r\n\r\n Six (6) months experience processing Public Information\r\n Act (PIA) requests\r\n Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and\r\n Google Workspace applications\r\n\r\n\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.\r\n

SELECTION PROCESS

Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will\r\nbe considered for this classification. Therefore, it is essential that you\r\nprovide complete and accurate information on your application. Successful\r\ncandidates will be placed on the Eligible List categorized as BEST QUALIFIED,\r\nBETTER QUALIFIED or QUALIFIED and remain eligible for consideration for at\r\nleast one year from the date of examination. The list will be used by the\r\nhiring manager to select employees. The list will be valid for one year.\r\n

EXAMINATION PROCESS

The examination will consist of a rating of your\r\neducation, training and experience related to the requirements of the position.\r\nYou may be required to complete a qualifications supplement, or the rating may\r\nbe based on your application. Report all experience and education that is\r\nrelated to this position.\r\n
