LOCATION OF POSITION

Main Purpose of Job

The position\r\nfunctions as a Police Pursuit Vehicle Specialist and is responsible for the\r\nrepair and maintenance of all Police Pursuit vehicles owned by the Maryland\r\nState Police, State Fire Marshal's Office and Vehicle Theft Prevention Council.\r\nThis position maintains vehicles which will at any given time; have to exceed\r\ntwice the posted speed limit, in all weather and road conditions. This position\r\nensures the safe and reliable operating condition of all Police Pursuit\r\nvehicles. The safety of the Trooper as well as the motoring public traveling\r\nthe Maryland roadways is critical.\r\n

POSITION DUTIES

Replace or repair components on MSP vehicles and schedule\r\npreventive maintenance. Replaces complete engine assemblies, replaces /\r\nrebuilds entire rear differential assemblies to include axles, bearings and\r\ngears. Replaces all components involved in engine tune-up, to include spark\r\nplugs, ignition wires, coil packs, crank and cam sensors, timing belts and\r\ndistributors. Diagnose, replace or repair water pumps, power steering pump,\r\nsteering gear box and steering racks. Diagnose and repair brake systems to\r\ninclude replacing brake pads, calipers, rotors and master cylinders. Diagnose,\r\nrepair or replace air conditioner components, to include evaporator units and\r\nperform a leak test after charging with refrigerant.\r\n\r\n\r\nDiagnose and repair mechanical / electrical malfunctions. Diagnose, repair or\r\nreplace electric windows, blower motors, alternator, electrical shorts, mass\r\nair flow sensors, crank and cam sensors, coil packs, engine computers, cooling\r\nsensors/relays, ABS systems and all other electrical components. Properly\r\nInstall, repair or replace electrical police equipment such as emergency\r\nlights, sirens and shot gun racks.\r\n\r\nOperate all computer scan tools, to diagnose repairs.\r\n�Prepare necessary paperwork on completed repairs. Properly\r\nprepare 'Motor Vehicle Repair Order' for each vehicle serviced.\r\nAttach a receipt or invoice to all work orders for all outside purchased parts.\r\nEnter all inventory/stock and log all operation numbers, as per instructions on\r\nback of MSP motor vehicle repair order, with minimal mistakes. Is able to take\r\non some of the supervisors' duties in their absence and still maintain their\r\nscheduled repairs.\r\n\r\nRoad test vehicles, to ensure the safe operating condition.\r\n\r\nPerform minor welding work, cutting torch work and operate drill press\r\nOther duties as assigned by supervisory or\r\nCommand personnel.\r\n

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of the\r\neighth grade.\r\n�Experience: Three years\r\nof experience servicing, maintaining and repairing motor vehicles or equipment,\r\none year of which must have involved responsibility for performing major\r\nautomotive repair work.\r\n�\r\nNotes:\r\n1. Graduation from an\r\naccredited vocational/technical high school with a major in automotive\r\nmechanics, or a related field, may be substituted for up to three years of the\r\nrequired experience.\r\n\r\n\r\n2. Candidates may\r\nsubstitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a non-commissioned\r\nofficer in Mechanic classifications or Automotive Maintenance Technician\r\nand Vehicle Maintenance specialty codes in the Mechanic or Maintenance\r\nfield of work on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.��\r\n

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Preference will be given to applicants who possess the following\r\npreferred qualifications. It is important that you include clear and specific\r\ninformation on your application regarding your qualifications.\r\n�\r\nPreferred Qualifications:�\r\n1)���Three years’\r\nexperience repairing and maintaining all aspects of an automobile.\r\n2)���Current or previous\r\nexperience completing major repairs to engines, brakes, suspension and\r\nelectrical systems.�\r\n

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS

Employees in this classification may be assigned\r\nduties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such\r\nduties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in\r\nthe State of Maryland.\r\n

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Employees in this classification are subject\r\nto random substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland\r\nRegulation 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.\r\n�\r\nIn accordance with Section 2-204 (b) (6) of\r\nthe Public Safety Article, candidates may be subject to an initial drug\r\nscreening, a physical examination and a complete criminal background\r\ninvestigation to include a polygraph examination before permanent appointment\r\ncan be made. A criminal conviction may be grounds for rejection of the\r\ncandidate.\r\n
