Directs front-line student service operations and personnel that include the planning, development, organization, direction and implementation of student recruitment, admissions and registration functions. Directs activities to ensure student engagement and retention goals are met, projects are completed and progress is made towards attainment of key initiatives. Helps develop, implement and measure the progress relating to the School’s strategic plans regarding student affairs. 

 

  1. Serves as the principal operational director of the nursing programs (currently RN-BSN and Accelerated BSN; graduate programs in the future) in matters of recruitment, admissions, registration and general student service administration.
  2. Under the direction of the Associate Dean, assists with activities related to meeting criteria of accrediting bodies with reporting obligations to support continued compliance with accreditation standards.
  3. Provides guidance and training for student service staff in the areas of utilizing Empower (the Student Information System) and implementing regulatory policies and procedures. 
  4. Maintains accountability for resource management and prioritizing assignments for student services staff.
  5. Resolves day-to-day administrative concerns raised by faculty or students relating to student services, including questions about coursework, service resources and academic or administrative policies and procedures.
  6. Oversees recruitment and admission activities including facilitating Information Sessions and attendance at College Fairs.  Communicates with applicants regarding pre-requisite requirements, deadlines and the onboarding process.
  7. Performs an assessment of admission portfolios for presentation to the Admissions Committee. 
  8. Coordinates activities with the Director of Student Financial Aid and the Bursar to align registration with student aid and tuition payments.
  9. Directs the student service coordinators to ensure systems are in place and fully functional to track student curricular progress and to address concerns identified through those tracking mechanisms. Assists with updating relevant School policies and procedures.
  10. Acts as primary point person to interpret FERPA regulations for leadership, faculty, staff                  and students.
  11. Maintains and manages the Registration module within Empower; oversees the system processing, updating rules, populating courses and clinical sections and other technical and functional aspects of the system.
  12. Oversees student progression within the program and performs graduation audits in a timely manner.
  13. Manages the Federal Student Clearinghouse reporting requirements, ensuring reports are submitted as necessary and providing guidance to staff to reconcile concerns.
  14. Ensures documentation is transmitted to the New York State Education Department for clearance to take the NCLEX-RN Examination once students have completed the prelicensure program.
  15. Supplies and interprets statistical data from Empower to be utilized for State (IDEX) and Federal (IPEDS) reports. 
  16. Completes reports for other Health System department stakeholders such as Marketing, Development, Employee Health Services and the Alumni Association. Acts as primary liaison with Employee Health Services for student health clearance concerns.
  17. Assists with the coordination and execution of special events and/or programs such as commencement, commitment ceremonies and Sigma induction ceremonies.
  18. Collaborates with the Associate Dean in preparing informational literature used for recruitment and admissions functions.

  • Two or more years of progressive experience in student services management
  • Knowledge of student services-related practices, professional standards, federal rules and regulations
  • Demonstrated knowledge of leadership principles and practices
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences
  • Ability to interpret and implement complex rules and regulations as applied to student services
  • Ability to gather, interpret and evaluate statistical information to make effective recommendations

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $86,772.00 - $130,159.00 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
