Responsible for performing venipuncture on patients in assigned areas within the Medical Center, and prepares these specimens for delivery to indicated laboratories.

1.Performs phlebotomy on patients for required tests.         

2.Carefully follows accession order.          

3.Selects proper peripheral vein, cleanses site and applies tourniquet.        

4.Draws correct number and types to tubes on properly identified patients.                     

5.Ascertains that tubes contain sufficient blood and are correctly labeled.

6.Bands tubes according to labs as per established protocols. Places banded tubes in carriers.    

7.Communicates any problems or issues and alerts management accordingly.       

8.Keeps work area in a clean and orderly condition. Safely disposes of contaminated equipment and maintains a safe working environment.     

9.Regularly attends continuing education courses and conferences to maintain currency in field.                   

10.Follows the guidelines of OSHA, NYSDH, CAP and other regulatory agencies.            

11.Performs donor assessments, checks vital signs, medical history and accurately documents results for all potential donors per established protocols.          

12.Prepares donor collections for the laboratory processing per established Blood Bank and Infection Control guidelines.            

13.Performs daily, weekly or monthly quality control processes for designated departmental equipment.  

14.Maintains inventory supplies, for medical-surgical and dietary requirements.               

15.Maintains strict confidentially of all donor donations and records.          

16.Accountable for delegated tasks assigned by the RN/CNM within scope of the position.

Medical Assistant experience in a Cardiology or Internal Medicine Practice or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience

Basic computer skills required to enter and print data in EMR system and navigate Internet.

The salary range for the role is $27.97 - $30.05 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need.
