    • Wash equipment such as rodent cages, rabbit cages and dog pens using industrial cage washer.
    • Sterilize both clean and bio-hazardous animal housing equipment such as rodent cages, using a bulk steam sterilizer
    • Load, unload and operate cage washers and autoclaves
    • Receive and prepare soiled cages and equipment for washing
    • Prepare and process clean cages and equipment for delivery to campus buildings
    • Coordinate and organize the receipt, storage, and delivery of cages and equipment
    • Assist in scheduling the cage washing priority list
    • Perform minor maintenance of washing equipment and assist in trouble shooting maintenance issues, with reports to the Operations Supervisor
    • Discuss equipment issues with designated equipment repair personnel and chemical company representatives
    • Inventory chemical supplies and order from central CAR stock as needed
    • Receive and store supplies, materials, and equipment
    • General facility cleaning such as sweeping, mopping, power washing, foaming, hosing, dusting, polishing, emptying trash receptacles, etc.
    • Maintain records by collecting and recording data such as water temperatures, sterilizer performance, and chemical usage

 

 

 

Requirements

Completion of high school or equivalent education. One year of experience using cage washers, bottle washers and autoclaves found in biomedical research facilities housing animals. Frequent lifting of 26-50 pounds; occasional lifting of 75 pounds. Willingness to work a flexible shift, if necessary. Certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) level within one year of hire.

Organized, able to prioritize tasks

Knowledge of chemicals used for prepping and washing cages

Knowledge of rodent cage types used on campus and how to break down set ups for washing
