Senior Finance Analyst - Commercial Performance & Investment Review

Purpose

The Senior Finance Analyst - Commercial Performance & Investment Review will provide high-quality analysis and insight to improve the financial performance of major commercial contracts and investments through Post Investment Reviews (PIRs), benefits realization analysis and enhanced pricing governance.

The role will work closely with regional Finance teams and Group Commercial Finance, providing analysis and insight to improve future Investment Appraisals, pricing decisions and commercial performance.

Essential Duties / Key Accountabilities

Post Investment Reviews & Benefits Realization

• Prepare and complete Post Investment Reviews for qualifying Investment Appraisals in line with the Group PIR framework and agreed review timetable.
• Compare original IA or business case assumptions with actual financial and operational performance across revenue, net revenue, margin, EBITDA, capex, opex and other relevant KPIs.
• Identify and quantify the key drivers of over- and under-performance, working with Finance, Commercial and Operational stakeholders to understand the underlying causes.
• Assess whether the financial and strategic benefits set out in the original IA have been realized.
• Support the identification of opportunities and practical actions to improve the performance of existing contracts and investments.
• Track actions arising from PIRs, maintain accurate PIR records for regional and Group reporting, and identify recurring trends such as forecast bias, pricing issues, cost assumptions or execution challenges.

Investment Appraisal & Commercial Decision Support

• Apply insights from completed PIRs to support improvements in future Investment Appraisals and business cases.
• Develop historical performance benchmarks and use them to test revenue, margin, cost and investment assumptions, working with Commercial and Finance teams so previous experience informs future bids and investment decisions.
• Support Group Commercial Finance in developing consistent approaches to benefits realisation and commercial performance measurement.

Rate Cards & Pricing Governance

• Support the maintenance and ongoing administration of regional rate cards as the Group Rate Card initiative transitions into business as usual.
• Coordinate periodic reviews and refreshes so rate cards reflect current costs, market conditions and required returns, working with Commercial, Finance and Operational teams to validate the underlying assumptions and methodology.
• Monitor usage of approved rate cards and analyze pricing to identify trends in discounting and pricing performance.
• Support governance around deviations from standard rate cards, ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained, and identify opportunities to improve pricing consistency and commercial discipline.
• Analyze the financial impact of pricing changes, support implementation of agreed pricing actions and share regional insights with Group Commercial Finance to drive consistency across the Group.

Business Partnering

• Build strong relationships across regional Finance, Commercial, Sales and Operational teams, working with contract and business owners to identify practical improvement opportunities.
• Prepare and present PIR findings and recommendations clearly to senior regional stakeholders, providing evidence-based commercial challenge with support from Group Commercial Finance where appropriate.
• Serve as a key regional contact for Group Commercial Finance on PIRs, benefits realization and rate card governance.

Key Deliverables / Measures of Success

• Completion of qualifying PIRs in line with the agreed timetable, measured by PIR coverage and completion rate.
• Improved visibility of actual performance versus approved IA assumptions.
• Identification and implementation of actions arising from PIR findings, with evidence that lessons learned are incorporated into future Investment Appraisals.
• Timely refresh and validation of regional rate cards, with increased rate card coverage and usage.
• Improved visibility of realized pricing and discounting, and identification of opportunities to improve commercial performance and profitability.

Position Requirements

Essential

• Qualified accountant or equivalent finance qualification, ideally with 2-3 years of post-qualified experience in commercial finance, FP&A, business partnering or a similar analytical role.
• Demonstrable post-qualified experience operating at Senior Finance Analyst level, with the ability to take ownership of analysis and deliver work to agreed timelines.
• Strong financial analysis, Excel and modelling skills, with a firm grasp of P&L, revenue, margin and EBITDA drivers.
• Experience reviewing business cases, commercial contracts, investment proposals or project profitability.
• Able to translate financial and operational data into clear commercial insights and recommendations.
• Strong communicator, able to explain complex analysis clearly, challenge assumptions constructively and build credibility with senior Finance, Commercial and Operational stakeholders.

Desirable

• Experience in a project, contract or service-based business, ideally multi-region or international.
• Experience of pricing, rate cards, commercial bids or contract profitability analysis.
• Experience of investment appraisal, benefits realization or post-investment reviews, ideally in a private equity-backed or performance-focused environment.
