This position may require relocation/reassignment to any of our clinics based on business needs. Flexibility and willingness to relocate are required.

Responsibilities
~2 min read- →Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluations of local agency breastfeeding activities
- →Ensures that local agency staff are properly trained in breastfeeding education and support
- →Keeps current with up-to-date breastfeeding information and disseminates this as well as FNS-provided information to other local agency staff
- →Contributes to the development and/or establish Local Agency Nutritional Service Plan (LANSP) program goals and objectives for breastfeeding.
- →Monitors local agency breastfeeding rates
- →Ensures that breast pump issuance, inventory, and maintenance are logged and monitored
- →Completes required documentation and paperwork in a timely manner
- →Utilizes knowledge of WIC program policies and procedures
- →Utilizes knowledge of NVHC policy and procedures, HIPAA, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies in performing all duties at the clinic while ensuring compliance
- →Monitoring participants contact documentation, including random quality assurance checks with participants
- →Reads assigned books and materials on breastfeeding that are provided by the State WIC Breastfeeding Coordinator or WIC Manager/Director
- →Assist WIC staff in promoting breastfeeding through special projects and duties as assigned
- →Providing breastfeeding education to WIC participants and staff with various levels of education
- →Use WIC records system to obtain information needed on specific individuals
- →Attends and assists in community outreach events
- →Attends training seminars, conferences, and meetings assigned by WIC VP/Manager and/or State WIC program to maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in job related skills
- →Constantly alert for ways to improve customer service, increase productivity, improve utilization of resources, and communicating ideas to supervisor
- →Courteous, respectful, and creates a safe clean environment for participants and staff
- →Ensures confidentiality of information
- →Works to create/maintain good relationships with supervisors and co-workers
- →Conduct comprehensive maternal, infant feeding assessment related to lactation including ascertaining the participant’s breastfeeding goals using appropriate counseling skills and techniques
- →Assess the oral anatomy, neurological responses, and reflexes of the infant; assess infant behavior and development as related to human lactation
- →Provide evidence-based information to assist the participant to make an informed infant feeding decision
- →Identifies, coordinates, and collaborates with community breastfeeding stakeholders
- →Coordinate care with the participant or infant’s healthcare provider; provide written assessment as requested to healthcare providers and adhere to confidentiality policies
- →Maintain documentation of all participant contacts, assessments, feeding/care plan recommendations and evaluations of care not documented in Nevada WISH for a minimum of 6 years
- →Adhere to International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners Code of Ethics
- →Ability to act on referrals from other WIC staff regarding situations beyond their scope of practice
- →Assess and counsel mother-baby dyad with complex breastfeeding situations
- →Performs other work-related duties as requested by WIC VP/Manager
Requirements
~2 min read- Has current International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) certification to practice, issued by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners (IBCLE)
- Completed a minimum of 14 college courses from an accredited college/ university with an emphasis in any health or nutrition-related field or higher
- Meets the qualifications for a CPA (Competent Professional Authority) certification
- Experience with participant centered breastfeeding education, management, and promotion (minimum one year)
- Minimum one year experience in counseling breastfeeding women
- Fluent in English and Spanish
- Skill in operating a computer utilizing word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and email
- Skill in accuracy and attention to detail
- Ability to read and write legibly
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables
- Ability to communicate effectively utilizing proper grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation, follow verbal and written instructions as well as procedures.
- Detailed knowledge of International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) documentation and referral process
- Working knowledge of current evidence-based lactation support strategies and local breastfeeding resources
- Knowledge of nutrition requirements for pregnant and breastfeeding women, infants, and children, and nutrition education practices, theories, and principles.
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and utilize technical and statistical data and information
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and exercise independent judgement in the performance of job duties
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and exercise tact when dealing with the general public, healthcare providers, governmental officials, co-workers and supervisors.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of all departmental communications, documents, and transactions.
- Ability to accurately prepare and maintain various records, reports, correspondence, and other departmental documents
- Ability to deal with individuals from a wide range of social and economic backgrounds
- Working knowledge of State of Nevada WIC Program and Local agency policies, procedures, and documentation requirements
- Has received/completed state required 35-hour breastfeeding training within one-year of hire and state required WIC modules within one month of hire
- Ability to travel and/or provide coverage to multiple clinic locations
