Northbrook Public Library seeks a Circulation Assistant Manager.
Full-time: 35 hours/week
Schedule: Varies; 1 evening per week and 1 weekend every four weeks
About the Position
We are seeking a Circulation Assistant Manager who is passionate about supporting people, fostering a positive team culture, and ensuring patrons receive welcoming, consistent service. Working closely with the Circulation Manager, you will help oversee daily operations, coordinate workflows, support scheduling, and maintain high-quality service for the community.

They provide clear expectations, constructive feedback, and practical guidance while encouraging questions, skill development, and continuous improvement. This position combines people leadership with hands-on circulation responsibilities. Success in the role means strengthening staff through effective onboarding and ongoing development, supporting efficient department operations, and contributing to a culture of collaboration, inclusion, and high-level customer service. The Circulation Assistant Manager plays an important role in fostering a positive environment for both staff and patrons.
Qualifications and Experience
This position is a key leadership role in the Circulation Department, focused on supporting staff development, including training, coaching, and mentoring, while ensuring smooth daily operations and consistent service.
You will:
• Support, guide, and mentor circulation staff
• Assist with onboarding and ongoing training and staff development
• Coordinate scheduling, workflows, and coverage
• Support staff during challenging patron interactions
• Partner with the Circulation Manager on operations and service delivery
• Contribute to a welcoming, inclusive service environment
Required Qualifications and Experience:
• Experience supervising, training, coaching, or developing staff
• Strong customer service and conflict-resolution skills
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Experience with scheduling and workflow coordination
• 5 years relevant experience or 3 years library experience
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
• Experience with Polaris or other ILS systems
• Experience leading training or onboarding programs
• Knowledge of circulation services and public libraries
• Experience with Google Workspace and workplace technology
