Weekend Nanny Position (Arlington, VA)

Location: Arlington, VA
Compensation: $30+ per hour
Commitment Level: Part-time, weekends — long-term
Guaranteed Hours: 16 hours 
Schedule: 9:00 am - 5:00 pm Saturday & Sunday

Position Overview

An Arlington family is seeking an energetic, reliable weekend caregiver for their 7-year-old son. The child has ADHD and thrives with clear structure, advance notice of transitions, patient redirection, and active engagement throughout the day. This is an active companionship and supervision role centered on getting out into the world together — playgrounds, swimming, museums, crafts, and planned outings. The family is looking for a caregiver who brings a professional background in supporting neurodivergent children and who genuinely enjoys a full, active day with a curious 7-year-old.

Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, engaged supervision and companionship during weekend shifts
• Maintain consistent structure and routine throughout the day
• Give advance notice of transitions and support the child through them patiently
• Use patient redirection and positive behavioral support strategies
• Plan and lead age-appropriate activities including crafts, outdoor play, and outings
• Accompany the child to playgrounds, museums, swimming, and other planned destinations
• Provide close supervision during swimming and other active outings
• Prepare simple meals and snacks for the child as needed
• Tidy up after the child's activities and meals
• Communicate clearly with parents about how each shift went

Requirements

• Professional experience in special education, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, therapeutic recreation, or caring for neurodivergent children
• Demonstrated ability to maintain structure and use patient, positive redirection
• Energetic, active, and comfortable spending full days out of the house
• Reliable weekend availability on a consistent, long-term basis
• CPR and First Aid certified (or willing to obtain)
• Must be able to provide 3–5 professional references
