Lighting Technician (On-Call)

SUMMARY OF POSITION
Working independently, under the supervision of the Head of Exhibition Lighting and/or other management, and as a member of the Exhibition Lighting team, the Lighting Technician (On-Call) supports the art-focused lighting design in the museum areas open to the public. The Lighting Technician (On-Call) is responsible for the safe handling and movement of museum lighting equipment and inventory and may work in non-exhibition areas helping to execute lighting for Retail, the Café and for Special Events.

SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Previous experience in theatrical, event or exhibition lighting required.
• Knowledge of basic electrical practice required.
• Knowledge of standard lighting materials, methods and practices.
• Strong attention to detail
• Good communication skills
• Flexibility and the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
• Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Prep and focus lighting instruments for exhibitions
• Maintain gallery lighting, lighting inventory and lighting control system
• De-install, clean, repair and store lighting equipment

WORK DEMANDS and ENVIRONMENT:

• Must be able to operate and/or work on ladders, scaffolding, and in scissor lifts
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and occasional holidays
• Ability to lift at least 25lbs.
• Occasionally work may be conducted outdoors, exposure to varied weather conditions.
• Ability to travel within the metropolitan area as required to perform the above duties at any of the Guggenheim’s owned or leased properties upon request.

EDUCATION:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelor’s degree preferred

WORK SCHEDULE: On-Call, Schedule TBD

POSITION TYPE:  On-Call, Non-Exempt Position covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement with Local 30

SALARY RANGE:  $35.12 - $42.14 per hour
